Product: Explorer Corps
Rating: 3.50
Comment: A treasure trove of useful information. The historical section on the Explorer Corps makes for interesting reading, especially the Wolfnet real time discussions. But the real value of this book is the rules section with the expanded movement tables and the information on space operations.Of interest to people who want to create new states is the section on creating star systems. This is the only book so far that has that information. Also present is information on building low tech and utility mechs. Finally there is a section on working for the Corps which is useful to those who want to start new Mercenary units since the Explorer Corps hires mostly small units and is a good place for a new unit to start. At the back of the book is a section with a a handful of new vehicles and spaceships, these have been reprinted in later TROs.

Comment: This book is a significant improvement over the older books the layout is much more user friendly the index is more complete the rules are easier to locate and understand and contains most of the newer weapons and the revisons that have been made since the book origonaly came out consist of rules for new equipment so this book can still be used for currant play

Product: Maximum Tech
Rating: 2.50
Comment: This book is useful for more advanced players. The rules are level 3 but are used so much now that many players consider them to be the same as level 2.The rules that are contained within are well balanced and mesh smoothly with official level 2.There are many people who feel that these rules should be level 2.While not legal for tournament play they do work very well for regular games.

Product: BattleTech Compendium
Rating: 2.50
Comment: This book is outdated and out of print now and many rules have been changed. How ever it was the last book published with construction rules for 10-15 ton mechs.and the last one with the full LAM construction rules (though you can still find the latter in the Tactical Handbook. The main value of this book is in the fact that it has the information on the ultra-light mechs and LAMs for old timers who still like to use them

Comment: O.K. This book is now long out of print. The section on Warships and Dropships is now useful only for fluff as the stats no longer match the rules and cannot even be converted .The aerospace fighters are also using outdated rules though it is possible to convert them to the newer rules. The updated rules for both can be found in later books. The other sections are still usefull and right now the mechs are still only found here, and only some of the vehicles have been printed in later books. If you still have this old book or find it for sale used somewhere it can still be useful

Comment: The first TRO but still very useful .There are some annoying glitches notably the specification pages for the 35 ton Ostscout and 60 Ton Ostsol have been reversed, the Hatchet on the Hatchetman does not have the weight and crits factored in(it has been corrected in the revised TRO)and the Stats for the Sparrowhawk fighter are missing and the stats for the Stuka are printed there instead. The dropship section is usefull only for fluff as the stats do not match the currant rules.the fighter stats are also obsolete by they can be converted. This is the only place that LAMs can still be found for those old timers that still love them. The biggest value of this book is the Inclusion of 12 mechs that FASA was forced to cease publication of because of licensing issues with their images. The little pieces on notable mechwarriors, pilots, and vehicle crews is a very nice inclusion that is sorely missed in later publications. If you still have this book or can still find a used copy for sale it is still a good book to have in your BT library

Comment: This book introduced the first clan mechs and the first Inner Spere mechs to use recovered Star League technology. This book contains the first statistics for Clan weapons and equipment and also contains the stats for the recovered Star League equipment .The information contained with in is needed by anybody running Clan campaigns the Innersphere mechs for the most part have been superseded by later designs but the Clan designs still see a lot of use.

Comment: This book introduces the Clan omni-fighters and new innersphere and second line Clan mechs as well as 4 Clan omnimechs first published in the Clan Wolf Source book. The designs within are useful to campaigns set after the Truce of Tukkayid. The Inner Sphere mechs are better designs than the ones in TRO 3050.The color art does have problems with perspective and proportion>the line drawing are good
