As the tanks are about to retreat. What does everyone think about using the airfield as a base of operations for the rest of the assult?

It will give the enemy a prime target to hit, where if we are mobile units, it will be harder for them to find and attack us easily.

At the very least, we should strip it of any and all salvage we can carry, then make sure the planet won't be using it as a base to hunt us.

I may have another idea, if you all are open to it.

Loot what you need for repairs and/or can haul off for later, but booby-trap a portion of it while you're destroying the rest to give them the idea that some of the demolition didn't go according to plan. If it works, you could take out enemy support personnel who are trying to catalog what is left. Even if it doesn't work fully and the demo charges are found, you could rig them into a command detonated circuit that could be used to destroy any EOD troops sent to clear the area.

The follow on idea to this, though, is to make the enemy believe that they've lucked up somewhat or that your demolition didn't have quite enough time to be completed because you're on a time table and you moved out to hit your real target. Use this to lure them into setting up into a known area, the airbase, where they should begin trying to repair and/or reactivate said airbase, then hit them HARD when they're there and dealing with the presents you left behind for them. It may not work completely, but it may work enough to keep them off balance and on the defensive here while you prepare to hit your actual target.

In short, you've already bloodied them here, but if you can convince them that you've raided the airbase for what supplies you needed before moving on to your real target, you may be able to actually bloody them so badly that they'll route completely, making your real target that much easier to take.
