With the PS3 and Wii launching in the next few days, I'm curious as to which system (if any) people are after.

Again, my vote is for the 360.

PC. I'd probably have to buy a TV too if I bought a console. My computers take up enough room as it is so I'll keep the games on them.

Same here. PC all the way.

Though it gets a little complicated if we start invoking the whole family (brother is a PS3 guy, girlfriend is a Wii gal, and surely someone somewhere will eventually end up with a 360, so I'll end up playing all of them.)

Ah, nuts. I forgot to put a PC choice in the poll. Sorry about that.

Well if I had $600 to spend and no computer parts to spend it on (not likely), I would go for a 360 and Wii. Both consoles combined would come out to be less expensive than a PS3.

I would say PC, but the PC has jack + squat coming out for it in 2007 aside from C&C3, Unreal Tourney 2k7 and maybe Red Alert 3.

The Consoles are getting a big year in 2007. Several masterpieces like Mass Effect, Assassin's creed*, BioShock* and Crysis* will be hitting and storming their way onto the shelves.

Online gaming isnt even a PC only realm either now. So, yeah. I chose 360 and Wii cause i already have the 360, and the Wii might get a good game or two on it by 2007's end.

* - These games are multiplatform including PC, but the level of power requirments are pushing the $400+ video card and $400+ processing core point. The consoles will dominate 2007 and most of 2008. By 2008 AMD and Intel's 4x and 8x setups will be done, mulltithreading will be a given for game programmers and DX10 with Windows Vistas will bring some major titles back...but I dont think PC gaming will see 1/10th of what its got now.

Long live the DS

Supreme Commander and Spore count as "jack + squat"?

I'm with Warhammer on this one. PC gaming has never had a bad year (there are so many PC game companies out there). Some years have more blockbusters coming out than other years, but there has never been a year of PC game desert.

I did forget those two, which is odd, cause I'm totally watching both.

On the same end...they aren't going to be big enough to help the PC market no matter how good they are.

There are some others, obviously. Hellgate London, Fallout 3, WoW expansion.

But other than WoW, nothing is going to sell nearly as well as the major console releases in the 1st and 2nd quarter this year. And selling is a big issue. If games dont sell well, then stores wont carry it anymore and the distributors will pull projects.

Actually, that's another blow for online distribution. Wheras before 2005 (I believe), market analyst reports didn't factor online sales/digital downloads, and were reporting something like a 20% shrinkage of sales year on year, during the 2005-06 fiscal year online sales were taken into account; sales were actually just as high as ever, but most of the sales were online.

Thats pretty sweet. I like Steam, myself. I know there are others...but that one seems to work pretty well.

PC game sales are being driven online. The PC game section of the so-called "game" stores keep getting smaller and more neglected. Same thing for the big chain stores, you can expect them to have the latest "big" releases, but if there is a specific game you want that isn't being hailed as the greatest creation of mankind this month, or was made last year, you'll be headed for amazon.com.

My games are all PC, haven't had a console since I retired my Intellivision.

Though I have played a few games on a PS2 a friend let me borrow once. I've been thinking about getting one of those, actually. What do they go for now, a hundred-something bucks?

If I got a new one, I think I would get a Wii, I find those new controllers interesting.

I think Wii is missing an advertising point here. I am a big fat game player and that Wii would get me off my but and make me do aerobacise to play a game. Want to play virtual tennis, Wii makes you swing your arms around to it! Burn a few calories, get more physical. Do you know any other game consol or PC that can put forward that claim?

And if other... controllers... were to be made?

Imagine, all over America... thousands of big fat gamers stomping on their living room floors, sweating, gaming, looking ridiculous behind the privacy closed curtains..... playing Dance Dance Revolution.

My neighbors are fine people but I somehow know they won't agree with me stomping around for hours on end at home. I'll leave the sweating and jumping to my ju-jutsu club, thank you.

Actually, several upcoming Wii games are supposed to have that feature (calorie burning/excercise mode). Wii Sports already has it.

And you won't be stomping; you'll simply be moving (waving your arms, twisting your body, etc)

That's the entire focus behind Games For Windows. Microsoft is beginning to promote the PC as a gaming platform, like a console. Companies that sign up and meet certain criteria like true widescreen support, or Universal Gamepad support (only if it makes sense for your game; Titan Quest and the like don't need it, for example) get better placing at the retail stores.
