I was just wondering why only 1 person from MA so far has signed up for the tournament...I know both myself and hohiro have talked about it....whats the beef fellas?

I think the fact there's no Commando in Worcester that's the main issue here.
I've heard from a dozen or more people that said they were interested, but the lack of a site here is the reason they aren't playing.

anyone ever heard of a CAR?...I mean hell I drove 3 hours to game with you guys...and Albany is just over an hour away from you guys...so its not like your going on a sojourn or anything like that.

As do I...Worcester is 1hr 15 minutes from Albany...I am a Commando, and I am running the Martial Olympiad in Albany. I know you guys drove almost 2 hours to goto Total Con from Worcester...or over an hour at least to go there...so why is driving even a lesser distance to NY for an Official Tournament a couple time in the summer so difficult for everyone to fathom?
Just a question, and not to sound rude or anything...but is the lil group there in central and western MA so Clichy that they dont play with anyone outta their lil group?...just curious cuz I find it hard to believe that no one wants to drive an hour from MA to game, yet I am having people from as far away as Canada come to my games.

I don't know why other people don't want to drive to Albany, but I can tell you why I'm not going (and I'm betting it's the reason Mordel isn't going)...I have less than zero interest in the Martial Olympaid.
As for travelling to conventions, we had people from all over the US at TotalCon. And I know they don't come just for the games, they come for a a few days of hanging with friends they only see once a year.

Just to reiterate what chihawk has said, it's not that we're a closed group at all. I love BattleTech and I love to play it, but not in tournaments or anything like that. We go to the cons to hang with friends that come from numerous places. We know each other, we drink, and they poke fun at me for 4 days.
Now, as for the Martial Olympiads... how come there is no Commando in central MA? With the amount of players we have here, I think it would be wise to have someone. When the card game was still kicking, I signed up to become a Mercenary, although it dies shortly after I got my confirmation.

I don't know why there isn't a Commando in Central Mass. There are some blank spots on the map I'm scrambling to fill, and other places so crowded you can't swing a cat without hitting a Commando.
As long as we're on the subject of Woostah though, is the Fuzzy Grape still open?

There is an Olympiad running in Amesbury as I understand it, and that's sooo much closer to me. (Commando: Dave Johnson)
I havent registered yet because I just got my RS3067, and need to do some investigating.

Last I checked, the Fuzzy Grape had been closed. That was a few years ago though, so I don't know if it was reopened under a different name or what. I'm sure chihawk could answer that though, as he used to hang out there all the time.
Speaking of Commandos, how does one become one? I'm not claiming that I WANT to be one, just claiming some interest in looking into it.

That would be me viewing the closed Fuzzy Grape. I used to drive up from North Stonington CT and plunder the most precious of the Commonwealth of Massachussets natural resources.

well if I came off soundin pissy I apologize...I just get frustrated when people who love the game dont game with other people outside their own gaming group...and i usually get pretty vocal about it too...so sorry for commin off sounding mad....comes from frustration of having 5 different gaming groups in my area, and only 1 other one wants to game with us/participate in the Martial Olympiad.
I could only hope that Hohiro will at least run a game or 2 for you guys.

I originally signed up for the Commando program but had to disqualify myself as I do not use painted minis, which is a requirement of the Commando program.
As many here know, I had over 150 minis stolen at a Con several years ago. So from that point on I stopped buying minis.

I just applied for the Command program, and saw nothing about having to use Painted Minis. I do have some and will be glad to use them for the scenarios, but by no means do I have one of every mini painted.

I've got about a dozen too, but I don't use them.
The indication for the use of painted minis came in an e-mail that was "stage 2".
