I played for most of this year with 2 empires. But recently I gave it up. It takes forever or enough donation cash to buy a nice car to build up an empire strong enough and large enough that one of the big fish with c-bills to burn can't swallow you whole while you are offline overnight.
I had one empire with large neighbors. I expected it to die eventually. But after I had a mech lance, a med/light tank battalion, 1 combat inf battalion, and 4 rifle battalions I though I could at least get in a good fight.
I log on one fine day and see I am being attacked in one square. So I spend all my cash to pick up some vehicles and inf, giving myself 4 more tanks and a rifle battalion and move everybody to the capital city. Then I have to log off for an hour. When I come back they other guy had drove all the way in a single line that included all my cities and my troops were down by 1/3 and standing in an empty square next to the capital with no money and no income.
My other empire had only a few small and stagnant neighbor, so it wasn't as built up, only 3 light mechs, 2 tank companies, 1 engineer vehicle company, 2 combat inf companies, and 4 rifle inf battalions on building duty. I was concentrating on income and research, had over 20 research building and close to 1 million c-bills income a day and I could already build motor SRMs though not more than 4 or so per day. I do my stuff on it one night and come back the next night and my empire is just plain gone, wiped out.
Two MERCENARY units appeared out of nowhere several squares outside of my territory and invaded simultaneously. It was no contest at all. How many hundred of millions of c-bills did that cost?
I figure I would have needed another year or hundreds of real dollars donated to have stood a small chance of defending my empire from that invasion. And even then I would only have lived had I been online and looking at the map when it started.
That's why I won't be back to Neveron. There are people in that game who are donating 1,000 bucks at a time just to buy themselves Clan Stone Rhino assault mechs with donation points. So how can I compete with that, by taking out a 2nd morgage on my house?
It is a game that has a few big fish, and all the rest of us are only there so they'll have some small fish to prey upon. That game needs a whole lot of tweaking before I would try it again. The best fix that game could have it to simply have no battles at all without both empire owners present to personally control their forces. It is the only way a defender has any hope at all of holding his ground.
