Alright, here's another attempt at a design, this one a little different from the Lesalia Class I've done before.
First, it's larger. Not by an incredible amount, only 50,000 tons. I felt this might help increase cargo space a bit, and give me more room for non-gun things. It did do that, but it kept fueling this thing difficult. As such, though I was tempted to call it a very light Cruiser at first, I've had to settle for the Frigate designation. Also, the arsenal is still not incredibly impressive, but I think it will be good enough. For some redeeming of my honor, I diversified the weaponry the design carries, partially to offset the weight I wanted back, and partially so it carried more than lasers.
The capital weaponry is based vaguely off what I have seen of StarFleet vessels. Forward and aft torpedo bays, and the capability to fire lasers off in pretty much any direction. That being said, the vessel conforms to BattleTech norms of having the heaviest weaponry be in the versatile broadside arcs, with the aft being relatively weak in comparison. Weapons are based mostly for fighters and dropships, relying mostly on maneuvering and armor for capital ship engagements.
Armor coverage is uniform, since that just seemed to be a good idea. It should be noted that my gunners and crew members have nice cabins, calculated at 10 tons per rather than 7. So, not a bad ship to spend time on. Also, there are cabins for enough crew to generate complete support for the vessel. I am still not sure if the vessel will actually CARRY that much crew, but it is nice to know that it is a possibility. 100% lifeboat capability has been preserved. The ship carries no fighters, but the small craft may be assault craft at the captain's discretion. I have them there mostly to ferry things back and forth when the dropships are already on planet.
To sum up, this vessel reaches a compromise between interesting fluff and diversity, and my desire to have something that could hope to challenge larger warships while still being able to get the dropships and ground troops from place to place. Thoughts are welcome as always.
