Overview:
The Oni was built as a medium infiltration unit and sniper. The battery of extended range lasers and the targeting computer make it a lethal weapon at long range. The original concept of the design was thought up by designer Rob Scholz, after a bad joint and watching way too many anime movies.
Capabilities:
The Oni outspeeds most other 55 ton ÔMechs, and is more agile than most. The Angel ECM suite allows it better protection, while the Star League-era Null-Signature System allows for it to be rendered invisible to an enemyÕs scanners while closing. The primary gun is the ER Large Laser mounted rifle-style in the left arm, which has a TAG system riding sidecar in the mount. Twin medium lasers, both also of the extended range variety, are mounted in the right torso for added firepower at closer ranges.
Deployment:
There are only six Oni model BattleMechs in existance, since they are still a Shakuras Industries prototype. However, the endurance of the design will be tested in an upcoming competition for ShakurasÕs production contract, against such designs as the Dragon Slayer, Fencer, and the Assassin LAM.
Variants:
There are two other variants of the Oni, the GSX-01 and GSX-02. Both change the weapons layout and the amounts of armor and heat sinks. Strangely, the two variants mount Clan extralight engines, but the main model mounts an Inner Sphere engine.
The GSX-01 carries ten double heat sinks, moves the TAG to the right arm, increases the rear and chest armor, and redoes the entire armament. The large laser is replaced by a Clan Gauss Rifle with a ton of ammunition, and the lasers are replaced by a Clan Streak SRM-2 launcher with a ton of ammo protected by CASE. The targeting computer and good agility means the 01 can snipe from hilltops, take out command ÔMechs, and escape.
The GSX-02 keeps the armor layout of the 01, and also changes the weapons. Fourteen double heat sinks keep the design running cool, but in this case it isnÕt a necessity. There is no ammunition to cook off, so the 02 has less worries. Also, triple strength myomers increase the speed and the power of the sword during heated conflicts. The armament consists of Clan lasers yet again. The left armÕs rifle mount carries a heavy laser, most likely recieved from Clan Wolf-in-Exile in trade for a production run, and an extended range medium laser running sidecar. The right torso carries a pair of medium lasers, although the pulse variety this time. The targeting computer onboard allows for deadly accuracy, even with the inaccurate heavy laser.

I have to abstain from voting on these designs. I detest level 3 tech (to each his own though) and usually don't even look at the stuff. But others here are avid Lvl 3 junkies, so I'm sure you'll get responses.

Any particular reason for using an engine rated 20 over what you need for your movement?

i voted munchy, because generally anything lvl3 is gonna hit the munchy factor.
first, you stole my name....... but thats bound to happin. just fyi i posted a medium mech called the oni, but lost the info in a reformat.

Actually, my friend designed it... I just converted it to BT for fun... I think that the munchiest form of it is the 02, cuz the TSM and the sword and all those heavy lasers... damn, boy.
