The only thing physical was his moving around to fire the M249 SAW...he didn't even get a scratch. Hell we were doing less then 35 miles an hour when the attack happen and we were out of the kill zone in under 2 minutes and once we got back to the base 3 hours later and he saw the two that actually got hit by flying rocks and such from the IED (Improvised Explosive Device) he starts to complain about his hearing.
I know that there is nothing I can do about his getting the award, it's just that i feel really bad that someone would stoop to such a low level to get an award.

Well, in that case, buy him some earplugs. Hell, my ears would be ringing a bit after firing a SAW, but if that's all that happened to me after all that, I'd be praying my thanks to the Lord instead of asking for a Purple Heart.
There you go... maybe the chaplain can talk some sense into him. If not, an old crusty senior NCO that's been around since Ceasar was a Corporal, especially if they have prior combat experience.

Heck my dad's ear still ring from the years he was in the Air Force. Want ear damage try being cooped up in one of the missile bunkers in Montana for several years. That is frustrating to see someone scamming a medal like that when there are plenty of deserving people out there from the same combats that never get medals.
