The exact opposite is true. With just me performing the test all conditions between the two systems are identical, meaning the only differences between the two methods are the methods themselves.
And what I worked out will work for everyone because all it is being tested is basic math, which has been proven repeatable since the beginning of math itself.

Yep.
It took me a very long time to get TPTB to recast the Unseen, and I was taking a very active role in trying to get that change made.
This one is, well, mostly just a pet project.

More like what feels right for one may not be exactly what the other one is looking for. That's why you usually, after doing the test yourself, try to make some beta test with other people. Basic math may work, but that doesn't mean that others will like it or don't want to ephasize something else. Personally I fail to see how having greater dice variation emphasizes tactics, but that could be jsut me.

I posted a chart with the odds of 2d6 vs 3d6. On 3d6, a -2 for a pulse laser grants you less of a percentage gain to hit than it does on 2d6, so you'll hit a little less often.
How does that change tactics?
Well, would you play the same way against an opponent with a 7 gunner as you would against one with a 1 gunner? Of course not. You change your tactics based on the expected fire resolutions.
So you already do it now without thinking about it.

the thing is that this affects all modifiers equally without changing the ballance among them all. you just have a bit higher stretch of roll possibilities and higher probability of getting an average result. How does that change tactics? You still want to have the bonked tech, you still wnt to hoard modifiers for movement and terrain. I don't see it putting focus on anything in particular.

That's because you haven't looked.
Try a few games 3d6. Base gunner 7 (which is only a slight percentage worse than the current 4).
You'll be a quick convert.
