The main problem with the Paladin is that it is so hard to play properly. Mages, on the other hand, are a different story. I once had a mage in my party that was named "Rat-Zapper" for his habit of killing every rat in sight. (Of course, he kept trying to draw sunglasses onto his character portrait, too.)

I happen to think Palidans are easy to play...the problem is people tend to "over play" them instead of just "playing" them. Mordel has one in my current D&D campaign and is doing a great job

well one day i decided to add a monk to my D&D saga (using same formula and stats for BG2) and i came along and blundered into a battle between drow and elves (was quite a big campaign at the time) and i sat around waiting for someone to win. At the end of the fight there were 2 wood elves left (5-6 battle) and they went hostile (does that sound right) so i hit each of them and they were frozen solid, so i killed them with sheer malice. The losers forgot that i had stunning blow

That is a little bit more reasonable than the guy who used a Vorpal weapon as a Pry Bar. Ping, the Brainless one and 2 charachters are injured by +3 shards. I figured a stupid idea deserved a stupid response.

What is stupider is that a couple of pals were playing with those onamentals swords that hang on the wall in real life. The fun stopped with a sword thru a hand. they were playing and got going to fast, a thrust went in thae back between the index and ring fingers and came out the base of the palm. 13 thru 15 year olds are special aren't they? The sword was pulled out and 20 stitches later and 2 weeks of healing later everything was forgotten. Talk about some serious fast talking to cover that one up with the parents and cops! ( golly, I am just another dumb teenager who thought I had it pointy end down!)

OK, this is pretty stupid. But not that funny. More like the all time "D'OH"
I was running a third level D&D game last Friday. The players were. My wife ( A rogue )
Draconis's wife (A Sorcereress) And Draconis (A Fighter) all third level.
They just cleaned out a room full of gnolls. And where about to leave. when I asked all the players to roll precent dice. ( As the campine asked) Drac-boy roll 99. The treasure chart showed that as a +2 luck stone.
So I said to Drac "As you leave the room. Your feet kick a stone. The stone is small in size and is white and smooth. What do you do?"
So without doing a detect magic or searching for traps of any kind. Drac takes a treasure chest that they got from another room. And smashed it against the stone. turning it into dust.
When asked why he would do such a thing. his response was "Just in case"
Now that is both stupid and sad.

Dumb things... Hmmm
Darryl used to run a game called King of the Hill at Total Con. A Lady named Lynn Parentau and I won the first couple and we were kind of marked people.. In this particular battle for some stupid reaosn I designed my mech with Mask in it (hate it hate it hate it), and decided on the first turn to turn it on because someone was dumb enough to move 10 hexes from me and give me his back. I wanted to punch him.. what can I say.
I rolled a 2 on my mask, and it froze solid. Darryl gave me a pilot check to see if I remained standing (think this rule changed very shortly afterwards), and I made it. Everyone on the board now saw my mech frozen and not able to move, or torso twist. That first guy, in his infinite wisdom decided to run directly at me firing away, instead of simply stepping out of my firing arcs. He died at the feet of my mech.
A second guy saw what happened to him, and figured "What the heck, it worked so well for him" and did the same thing dying one hex behind him (I got lucky and hit him hard in the head).
A third guy, knowing that I had to be almost dead ran right down the front arcs of my mech. My buddy John Casey looked at me and asked if I thought I could take the guy just as I hit him in his leg with 2 or three PPCs and then box car critted it, blowing it off. Casey laughed and said, "Good cause I gotta do this" as he walked his mech along side mine, never once stepping in my field of fire and killed me without trouble.
I guess the saying, "Well he tried miserably and died.. So I guess I better to the exact same thing" is alive and well.
