But remember on the old board I mentioned the possible use of nuclear arms in the terrorist war. I believe the overwhelming response was a great, big, resounding, no.
Now look at what ol' W is saying, the use of nuclear arms will be kept as an option.
Not that I'm happy that I was right, but there it is.

Of course they are to be used. Because W. is a stupid god forsaken moron. The moment we launch a nuclear weapon every country in the world will launch there nuclear weapons at everyone.
W = STUPID.
I was reading a wonderful discusion about MAD. The whole idea behind MAD was the logic that no one would strike because if they striked it would be the end of them too.
However one of the tiny flaws in the logic is that all it would take is one mistake, or one moron, to destablize the system and destroy the world.
Gentlemen and ladies, I present our moron.

Actually it is several morons. The ones who were supposed to be watching for the proliferation of nukes. Look at Pakistan and India, where were the Omega Teams supposed to take out the scientist and such that helped develop the weapons? I thought CIA an NSA were supposed to watch that stuff? I do not believe any president can be guilty of allowing another idiot to join the club unlees he did not have the Balls to allow the hit.
If a CEO of a company sold crucial items to a wannabe, sanction him. Enough dead principals in the "trade" that sell this tech will get the concept of the nuclear curse and stop the proliferation. Heck it could be several key members of a company.

Before you dump all this on Bush, Remember that every single president has had the option of using Nukes. And every single president has always said that the "Nuke Option" was just that an Option. Even our fearless skirt chaser.
He didn't say he was gonna use em, he said they were an option.
If he uses em, I will agree with you, until then, his statements are no different than any other president's.

Yeah,
I'm a Republican. I do like to think that I look at the candidates and vote for the best one, but I realize that everyone says that, and most likely truly believes it too.
I do not think the general attitude about GW has been very even handed. The people that hate him (for one reason or another) will always hate him.. The people who like him will support him. What will be interesting is to see if he pisses those middle folks off enough so they vote for whoever his opponent is next run.
People are waiting for him to screw up, instead of watching what he does and evaluating what effect it has.
Given him or Clinton, or Gore, I'd take him any day.

Nukes are not an option but a deterrent. when was the last time we used a nuke? At the end of WWII. Since then all we had were skirmishes, nothing major.
During the cold war i was never worried about the russians using them agianst us, now i'm more worried the maybe nukes have fallen into the hands of less cooler heads like Iraq, Palestians like the ones that danced in the streets on 9/11, or worse a suicidal Jihad. Any country who develops nuke power should realize of the deadly potenial of them and use it responsibly

In korea when the chinese stormed the border.
in Afganistan the taliban and the al quida.
Nukes are a genicidal weapon, that is what makes them a deterrant, because deep down no sane person wants that.

Actually he is right. If they are used, you lose. The guy launching them may lose to, but he has eliminated you. Your people are gone as well, so no one is around to get revenge for you.
I didn't vote for Gore mainly because he was Clinton's right hand man. Clinton had used foreign campaign contributions for his campaign, it was patched up, but Gore had to have known. The Vice president knows a lot of what is going on, he will have to take over. There were tooo many things happening with Clinton and some Gore either had to be involved in them or atleast looked the other way. Clinton was DisBarred from legal practice, how often do lawyers do that? He had to be guilty of a lot of the accusations, but was allowed to slide because he was the Pres. Gore would have know some things and stood back or looked the other way, leaders do not do that.
Would Gore have been looking the other way with 911? What else? I just couldn't rust him. Bush seems to be trying to do the right thing, even tho' he definately owes a lot to the energy interests due to their contributions.

You are in a dark alley. I am standing on the other end holding a very very big gun, telling you to get down.
If you are positive that there is no way in hell that I will ever fire that gun, is it a deterrent?
If you are not completely one hundred percent sure.. now is it?
If I say "Get down or I pull the trigger" and you can see my finger flex.. is it now a deterrent?
Having Nukes has never been the deterrent. Stating that when push comes to shove, if you feel backed into a corner, they are an option, tends to get people a little curious. Even if they think you are blowing smoke.
The vote... I looked at the two candidates like this..
GW, appears very uncomfortable in front of crowds. He tends to stammer and almost stutter during non prepared speeches, and it makes him look stupid and slow. During one on one talks he sounds relatively honest and intelligent (relatively).
Gore, is a very polished speech maker. Yet, he stands in front of the crowd, and talks down to them. Then he makes some of the stupidest claims that I've ever heard. I think he is lying about the fund raiser in the Buddist temple. My real beef with him though is when he ran (democratic primary) against Reagan the first time, he espoused some very interesting ideas.. All of which disappeared when he became VP. I have no respect for him, and could not vote for him because of that.
