Wow, this site has so much info and deep stuff, I'll have to go several times through it.
It's good because it criticizes conventional wisdom and accepted doctrine and it's a glaring critic of the faults of shortcomings of the US Armed Forces doctrine. Being the only superpower doesn't meant it's not without faults.
I just had vague impressions of somethings not being "right" , just based on common sense, critical analysis, and knowledge of history, but seeing how people that obviously know what they are writing about reaching and preaching similar conclussions it's not only an ego boost O but something far more serious, that there are faults on the US armed forces strategy, tactics and equipment that could be spotted by a five-year old child (or your average grunt).
Real wake up calls, especially the one about the 10th "Mountain" Division.
There were insistent rumors about the US might ask Spain for mountain troops for fighting in Afghanistan. Studies were made, plans were drafted, and we were kept waiting for a call that never arrived. That they didn't has more to do with the speed of the campaign, and a desire to avoid embarrasment than anything else. They had to ask the British for the Royal *Marine* Commandos, who are just crack commandos that have had some mountain training, but not fully qualified professional, in that area.
10th "Mountain" Division indeed... even the German *conscripts* of the Gebirsjäger would do far better than this.
