    Created by Smithforge as a Solaris VII dueling mech and advertising program, the Firedrake
    is intended from the ground up for showmanship and visual impression over raw combat power.
    From the extended, mechanical sculpted linkages that support the head turret, to armor
    plating that is set up to give the impression of overlapping scales, with folding 'bat
    wings' and of course, the ability to breathe fire from its mouth, it is intended for
    showmanship more than anything.

    Despite its focus on appearances, the Firedrake is not entirely without use on a real
    battlefield.  The partial wing system is based on reversed engineered clan materials,
    coupled with clan-tech weapon systems, allows for firepower that while light for the
    standards of the Jyhad era would have been stunning in 3050.  The Plasma Rifle gives the
    mech some much needed flexibility, and 17 tons of Hardened Armor allow it a scaly hide
    nearly as tough as that carried by machines twice its weight.  The quadrupedal form that
    constrains the machine's internal volume also serves to offset the stability penalty inherit
    in the use of the Hardened Armor, while its jumping/gliding mobility allows it to avoid the
    movement impairing effects of that same armor.

    No variants exist.  A production model, featuring combat electronics and improving the
    engine to Clan Specifications to give the space to mount them (at the cost of some armor)
    has been discussed, but no buyers have yet presented themselves and Smithforge has seen no
    reason to tool up production until or unless they do.

Notable MechWarriors:
    The only existing model is piloted by its lead designer, Jan Vanderhaven.  Though a more
    talented engineer than mechwarrior, Jan has piloted his 'Flaming Lizard' to success in the
    mid-weight brackets, gaining celebrity particularly with the younger viewers.  In
