Overview:
    In 2529, a young nobleman from Skye attempted to assassinate Archon Craig Steiner with a
    thrown bomb. The Archon survived by ducking behind his throne, which absorbed most of the
    blast. Although the Archon survived unharmed, three people, including a popular singer, were
    killed in the blast. (There were no consequences for Skye, as it was determined after his
    apprehension that the would-be assassin was a heavy user of mind-impairing drugs) As a
    result of the assassination attempt, Archon Craig had the Throne Room extensively remodeled.
    The dais was raised, the ceiling heightened and strengthened, and two massive doors were
    installed on either side of the room. The reason for these modifications was made clear
    during the Archon's next birthday celebration; while the Archon grinned at his guests'
    surprise, two Griffin BattleMechs entered through the doors to stand on either side of the
    Archon's throne. Since then, two Griffins have always stood guard over the Archon. In 3056,
    Archon-Prince Victor changed these to a Crusader and a Marauder. Not long after, Archon
    Katherine changed them to a pair of Hauptmanns, to highlight the Alliance's technological
    superiority.

Capabilities:
    MechWarriors assigned to Guardian Duty in the Throne Room quickly noted that PPCs, Gauss
    Rifles, and heavy autocannon were not effective weapons for their task. As such, warriors
    and techs of the First Royal Guards quickly agreed upon and implemented a new Hauptmann
    variant, designated HA1-OP. The HA1-OP mounts a large number of machine guns for use in
    killing potential asassins while minimizing collateral damage to bystanders. A number of
    medium pulse lasers provide accurate fire for killing battle-armored assassins. For when the
    situation is completely out of control, three Artemis-backed SRM 6 launchers and multiple
    types of ammunition provide the ability to engage battle-armor, large numbers of unarmored
    men, or even light to medium vehicles. The Beagle Active Probe ensures that the Archon's
    guardians cannot be taken by surprise. The placement of the SRM ammunition is some cause for
    concern, but space considerations made it impossible to mount it in the right torso, where
    the Hauptmann's integral CASE equipment is located.

Deployment:
    HA1-OPs are deployed by the First Royal Guards, in the Archon's Throne Room. It is, however,
    not completely unheard of for this variant to be used in combat.
    
    During the battle for Tharkad City at the end of the FedCom Civil War, a pair of HA1-OPs
    killed some four companies of infantry and three light BattleMechs before two lances of
    heavy 'Mechs brought them down.
