Overview:

The Iron Dogs Mercenary Group was interested in an inexpensive "attack dog" that could go deep inside enemy lines, out survive its competition, and not need re-supplies. They could not find what they were looking for, and after the War of 3039, the Iron Dogs were fortunate to quietly steal away with many disgruntled employees of Odin Manufacturing from the Orestes System. The mercenaries protected and enriched those engineers as well as their families in a quieter corner of the Inner Sphere. Together, they built the Rottweiler.

Capabilities:

The Rottweiler is the second design of the Iron Dogs and the bigger brother of the Pit Bull. It was designed very similarly to the Pit Bull to save money and design time. The Rottweiler can fire all its weapons and jump 120 meters without suffering the negative effects of heat. It has both long and short range capabilities without needing resupplies on longer missions. The long range firing is enhanced with a targeting computer. As a mercenary group, money is always an issue. They engineered the Rottweiler around cheaper and more available technology for easier repair and faster builds - except the advanced targeting computer. Still it is one of the least expensive 'Mechs of its class, but still packing a rottweiler attitude. The mercenaries also preferred the standard fusion engine over the more fragile XL fusion engine. Each of the Rottweiler's left and right sides have balanced weapons, a left-arm that can flip to attack behind the 'Mech, and a hand for grabbing and holding. The unit created approximately a dozen of the 'Mechs.

Deployment:

The Iron Dogs Mercenary Group is a private corporation who practices discretion and maintains its secrets. There are no known advertised deployments, though the Iron Dogs have known great success.

Variants:

The Rottweiler in its simplest form is the ID-R-1 model. However, the 'Mech can easily swap older technology for the newer extended-range weapons if the mission and pilot could afford the heat sacrifices. Many Rottweiler have been known to carry ER PPCs and ER medium lasers on special missions. The most common variant is the ID-R-2 which replaces the targeting computer with an SRM-4 launcher.

Notable MechWarriors:

The Captain of the Iron Dogs, James "Big Dog" Eisen-Hund piloted the first Rottweiler.
