Overview:
After the beginning of fourth succession war the Capellan confederation found it self under
crushing onslaught form well trained and numerous Davion attackers. Liao forces defended
fiercely every inch of ground, but well equipped and organized attackers continued to
advance despite the efforts of brave Capellan soldiers. Some units that weren't destroyed by
initial assault quickly found themselves cut from supplies and surrounded by enemy forces
without being able to call reinforcements. Fortunately for the Confederation the events
stopped all war efforts, but deep scars and remains of war were long seen on the
Confederation. One of these remains is RFL-3L Rifleman.
Capabilities:
As Capellan units started to run out of ammo and spare parts for those few Riflemen they
fielded, alternative solutions started to emerge here and there. After depleting all ammo
most units replaced Imperator-A autocannons with various small caliber guns hastily stripped
from various vehicles and installed heat sinks to place left after installation of lighter
autocannons. Techs were unable to deal something with armor, so the mech is still under
armored, but increased range and especially heat dissipation served the defenders so well,
that they refused to return those mechs, that survived fighting, back to original
configuration. 3L Rifleman pilots quickly developed various tricks to benefit from different
weapons configuration. They usually start battle by firing light ACs from ranges that most
enemy mechs cannot respond, trying to soften up the enemy for their lance-mates and then
following them as they close. Additional heat sinks allow much higher volume of fire, three
laser blasts in twelve seconds without overheating (in combination with AC fire or moving at
full speed), so the pilots usually try to find good firing position that allows accurate
laser fire and provides some cover, from which they can fire to the fray until the enemy is
dead or running. As with most Riflemen, weak rear armor prevents the mech from engaging in
combat directly.
Deployment:
Many units along Liao / Davion border field RFL-3L rather than standard 3N, but as some
units are moved around the confederation, 3Ls are slowly appearing around whole Liao space.
Reports show that few 3Ls fell to Davion and even Marik hands, probably during one of
unnumbered border skirmishes.
