You know I have a similar question about the placement of the guns on the Mackie...

Yay the Fafnir! I just use that as a phyclogical weapon. Now a mini will work much better.

I still want my multipart, posable plastic Mechs, with interchangeable weapon pods that can be glued on.
About six can be put on a single sprue, or four if you want to have lots of goodies tossed in as well. With a forty mech base, that'd be 10 plastic molds, each running about a hundred thousand dollars each. Le Ow.
Might have to see if this can be done cheaper...

Without a doubt it would have been a wise choice for FanPro to go with plastic minis. They are much more affordable which would help new players get into the game quickly. They look (mostly) just as good as the metal and hurt a lot less when thrown

ya know, That is not a bad idea. At A-Kon alot of btechers were really impressed with the MWDA mini simple because they were posiable. The fact that were plastic did not bother them at all.
So a Classic Battletech min (unpainted) that is posable, and can be interchanged with diffrent weapons loads (For omni minis (since the IS now has them))should sell really well.
How would we sell the idea to Wizkidz or Fanpro?

Easy:
Make it financially superior to what they now have in place.
The hard part is backing this assertation up. Personally, I see it as an investment ... get people to buy the cheaper 'Gateway' plastic minis, then rope them up into the more profitable metal ones, later.
The fans are *certainly* best served with plastics, and modular multipose types would be clearly cooler than cool. But the cost for the molding process is *really* high.
To back it up, I'd push for a fully miniature-based, table-top game. No more mapsheets, no cardboard mechs, and design, and encourage, paint schemes both realistic and stylistic. Yes, this is the GW method, but, well, it *does* work, and it really is an improvement.
Wonder how well it'd go over?

Well, if you force the game to miniatures/tabletop, you loose a lot a players that don't have the money for the game that way. This is a beer and pizza game, meaning the most expensive thinbg on the table is probably the pizza (or beer, depends on draft quality). I wouldn't be surprised if the bottlecaps and related stuff didn't get drafted into representing a mech. It's just how a large number of people play the game.
I don't mind buying minis if I have the extra money (and the minis look good), but since I won't have the extra money for a while (I got a sweet deal on a 1999 Saturn SL2!!!!, plus I'm still in flight school!!), switching the format to minis only won't go over well for me at least.
