Overview:
The Locust is a venerable design built in many tens of thousands in a multitude of designs.
These were armed with lasers, machines guns and/or missiles, and have served in every House
military and most mercenary and pirate units. However, one model that has seen next to no
combat was an experimental model that was being proposed for service in the Royal SLDF
units. Coming in finalized form just after Amaris conducted his coup, this model never went
into standard production.
Capabilities:
Most Locusts are built around a single medium laser with a pair of secondary weapons. The
LCT-2Sb is not like those models. Using an extra-light engine, endo-steel internal structure
and ferro-fibrous armor, enough tonnage was freed up to give this model a greatly improved
weapons package. In addition to the ubiquitous medium laser mounted under the chin of this
'Mech, each stubby turret arm also mounts an additional medium laser. Also in these turreted
arms is a two pack of short range missiles, which are both fed from the same one ton
ammunition bay.
Having greatly improved the weapons payload of this model, the engineers found that they
still had over a ton of mass left to play with, especially once some of the armor was shaved
from the head to give them back another half ton. This 1.5 tons went into an enlarged
engine, which provided a top speed that was improved over the base models by more than 16%.
However, given the lightness of the design and the types of engines being tested, there was
still a ton left to use, which went into myomer acceleration signal circuitry, which allows
this 'Mech to sprint at speeds of nearly 200 kph, or almost 70 kph faster than a standard 1V
model.
Deployment:
Never having been deployed to line units before the Exodus, the LCT-2Sb Locust was confined
to the anals of history for several centuries. If not for lucky happenstance, it may have
remained that way for eternity. Fortunately, the engineers at Defiance Industries managed to
discover the blueprints, and sent them to their Furillo facilities to implement production.
Variants:
In the centuries since the 2Sb model was first designed, there have been many advances in
weapons technology. A new version, designated the 7S, has been developed which replaces the
standard medium lasers with extended range models, greatly improving the distances at which
this 'Mech can affect a battle.
