Overview:
Named after a Terran desert dwelling insect, the Wind Scorpion is the first in the Desert
Chaos' long line of mixed technology quad Battlemechs which culminated with the Scarab of
3098. As with all of the family which it spawned, the Dune Master, as it came to be known,
makes use of weight saving technologies, no XL engine to keep the design affordable and has
a jump equal to that of its walking MP (an exception is the Scarab (Dune Beast) SC-X1A which
was a one off design for testing Hardened armour). As the names suggest, this is a 'Mech
designed with the arid, rocky terrain of DC's (Desert Chaos') home planet (Apostica-3) in
the Apostica system in mind: it has excellent mobility due to its jump, good stability due
to its quadrupedal design and is actually faster than a similar bipedal 'Mech in the close
landscape of Apostica-3 due to its ability to perform 'crabbing' manoeuvres. As well as
being potent for its tonnage, the Wind Scorpion can have its computer swapped for one with
less sensitive controls to give it the more forgiving handling characteristics ideal for a
rookie pilot's first solo trial in an armed quad 'Mech.
