Mechs. I have always found the Raven and the Ostscout to be great mechs for straight up roleplaying. And I am curious to see what everyone else thinks also make for better roleplaying mechs. _________________ Stinger If it's "creepy" to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then FINE, I'm "creepy". A lot of classic mechs have role-play ability as well.
Mechs like the Firestarter, Wasp, Stinger, and Locust have good maneuverability, but questionable amounts of firepower and armor. Anyone wishing to pilot one has to be smart and tactical about what they do.
You've also got mechs like the Shadow Hawk, Griffin, and Wolverine that are largely commando units; they can get in, do some damage, and get out, but under normal circumstances you won't win a stand-up fight in a stock unit.
Edit -
Almost forgot the Onslaught, one of the classic Solaris mechs. It's a jump-capable heavy that can maul targets up close, but ammo dependency means that players will have to be smart with how they use what they have, especially in a long campaign. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Not for a Steiner Scout...

It's not heavy enough for a Steiner scout. Add thirty tons or so, then it would be perfect... _________________ Sir Henry

It is if you know how to play it!
In my first battle (how time flies) it seems that I forgot the meaning of heat management. Not thinking clearly, I jumped into a 3 deep lake to clear some of my heat without remembering that one can't jump out. Next turn, I had DFA done on the PH and it died. _________________

A personal favourite is the Ostroc, particularly the versions with jump. The 'Mech only really comes into its own at level 2, however, when it can make use of DHS for all of those energy weapons and maybe even utilize some ER technology.
I think that the best canon variant is the OSR-4L: good manouverability and long range weapons without minimum range make it the perfect all rounder. Also, when the combat is only just beginning and weapons are in their long ranges, the 4L can activate Stealth armour to make hits more difficult for the enemy. _________________

In our current campaign I'm using a FS9-K. By 15 tons the lightest thing in our command lance and it's piloted by a technician (because we had to scrape everyone who can pilot a 'Mech in the first assignment). Any questions about RP? _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

You're Tech should move very woodenly in that Mech. He's good at moving from Parking space to garage and back.

Well, he was doing the jump tests and weapon calibration with it, so he at least knows where the buttons are and has some talent for gunnery. I think he started at 5/6 after receiving some basic training. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!
