Would you still compare pilot skills if the target mech is immobile?

I doubt it...doesnt seem like it'd make sense to. In that case I'd say make it a 75% chance to hit.

Well, a *really* good pilot could throw his weight around in the cockpit and make his mech tip over just enough to dodge.

But your name would have to be Victor, Kai or Phelan in order to do this properly

Just go with the Defender as Regular if his mech is immobile, it`s easiest.

75% might actually be worse than you'd get nomally...

5 (base for charge) +2 (run) +(-4) for immobile target = 3 before you compare pilots, IF you still compare pilots that is.

It might be easiest, but I doubt that's what the rule is. A pilot with a skill of 6 would actually improve with that method...

Charge??? Wouldn't that be Tackle????

There should be a pilot check unless the the Mech is a Mach 5 Variant...With a button on the command console to make the mech dodge...Like Kai Pilots....

Well, the Ultra-Greenie isn`t able to do as many mistakes as normal. Of course he looks
good in a shut-down mech. He can`t pilot it at all, so why modify the roll for him? You already get a -4 for Immobile Target.

yes, they should get both modifiers. In a way it accounts for worse than average {6+} pilots to have even a worse chance to hit an average pilot{5} whether the target is immobile or not.

Ummm, I think I may need to clarify based on the recent replies...When you charge a mech you compare pilot skill rolls to determine a modifier to the to-hit roll.

If a mech is immobile do you still compare those 2 skills?

If you do still compare is there a modifier to the pilot skill roll for the immobile mech?

I do believe you must figure in both modifiers (piloting skill diferential, and immobile target modifier). There are no specific rules stating that one superceedes another in any rulebook I've looked through, so both should be taken into account even if it seems unrealistic.

On the other hand: buildings don`t have a piloting skill at all. So while thinking hard on the subject, I changed my mind and now think you leave out the piloting if one unit is immobile.

You don't use a pilot comparison vs buildings because you only compare the pilot skill roll of "units" in a charge, and a building is not a "unit".

Well, a unit that`s immobile moves about as much as a building, why not use it?

As logical as that sounds it's not how the game works sometimes...

But we are talking immobile here. We arent talking about a 'mech that didnt move in a turn...

My thought is that if the target is immobile, then throw the pilot checks out the window. Just roll the "To Hit" with a -4 bonus to hit, just like firing on an immobile target.

And if the really bad pilot cant hit it, then its too bad for the really bad pilot...he just sucks.
