So would the clans allow a old or freeborn warrior to captain a DropShip or warship? I'm working on a story arch and this came up as I was making notes. Since I couldn't find any definitive answer I thought I would ask here.

My instinct says that I feel the only way they could captain a warship would be through trial. This is one of those "knowing how the Clans feel about..." type of things.

The Clans: Warriors of Kerensky pg. 34-35.
Warship Command Staff: Warrior Caste
Warship Crew: Technician Caste
I would hazard a guess that Warship Gunners are Warrior Caste.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I could see a solhama(sp) warrior keeping command of a dropship or warship, but it would be very rare.

Depends on the Clan, and what his/her status is within that Clan.
Diamond Shark/Sea Fox? Nova Cat? Wolf-in-Exile? Ghost Bear? Almost certainly.
Smoke Jaguar? Jade Falcon? Steel Viper? Almost certainly not, and definitely not without major at least one major Trial of Position and/or Trial of Refusal.
