Overview:
Created to be an improvement upon the original Urbanmech, while the Urbanmech (Omnimech)
weighs 50% more than its predecessor it devotes over 60% more tonnage to its payload than
the original design. This, however, pushes the design to 45 tons - making it a medium 'Mech.
Utilising advanced Mixed Technology to enhance the performance of the chassis, the Urbanmech
(Omnimech) is built using Clan Double Heat Sinks and Clan Ferro Fibrous Armor on an Inner
Sphere Endo Steel Chassis.
Capabilities:
Just as capable of functioning as a highly effective guerilla fighter, the Urbanmech
(Omnimech) has one huge improvement upon its namesake design - it carries a 135-rated
standard fusion engine and a third jump jet, making this "Urbie" (as it is affectionately
known by some) capable of reaching 55 kph when running and jumping up to 90m in one go. This
almost doubles the mobility of the 'Mech (relative to the UM-R60) which provides a great
deal more flexibility to the design. If the worst comes to the worst, the Omnimech chassis
allows for long-range weapons to be quickly fitted so that the 'Mech can be used as a sniper
in support of its lancemates, or even from the city outskirts as the enemy forces close in.
In this scenario, the design's increased mobility means the new and improved Urbie is no
longer a sitting duck in open terrain. However, it much prefers to be in its home
environment, as a company of Urbanmech (Omnimech)s can easily defend a city for weeks as
long as resupply of ammunition and light repairs are possible.
Unusually the design features a compact gyroscope for increased mobility while facilitating
the placement of all three jump jets in the Center Torso. The five non-integral Heat Sinks
are distributed one to each Leg, one in the Right Torso and two in the Left Torso. The bulky
Ferro Fibrous Armor and Endo Steel Skeleton mean no pod equipment can be fitted in the Head,
Center and Left Torsos, while the Double Heat Sinks fill the remaining free space in each
Leg. CASE is fitted to the Right Torso so that explosive ammunition can be safely stored if
installed.
This limited space helps push any Omni-variants towards mounting a single big weapon in the
Right Arm with support weapons and equipment in the Left Arm and Right Torso - the intended
nature of the design and how the three production configurations (UM-O1), UM-O2, UM-O3) are
arranged.
===UM-O1 CONFIGURATION===
Called the "Urbanmech Prime" by some, the main factory configuration mounts a devastating
Ultra AC/20 in its Right Arm, fed by 4 tons of ammunition in the CASE-protected Right Torso
and a trio of Small X-Pulse Lasers in the Left Arm for anti-infantry purposes. The awesome
damage from the Ultra AC/20 can cleave through the Centre Torso Armor to damage the
internals of some assault 'Mechs with a lucky shot when fired at double-rate, or straight up
blow off an Arm or Side Torso from some lighter or less well-armored 'Mechs - a feat few
other Medium 'Mechs can match (with one other notable design being a variant of the
Hunchback which also carries an Ultra AC/20).
Deployment:
The production of the Urbanmech (Omnimech) has been steady from 3092 onwards, a surprising
fact given the advanced technology used in the design. From 3114 onwards, Inner Sphere-wide
technological improvements allowed for an increased rate of production of the 'Mech, which
has since seen sales to all major Inner Sphere powers, particularly to the Capellan
Confederation.
Variants:
As well as the three aforementioned production configurations, several field configurations
have emerged, with personalised one-off variants being purchased - at a 10% price increase
above market value - by private buyers direct from the factory (some of these orders provide
"salvaged" Clan weapons of mysterious origin to be fitted to the design for the client).
In 3137, to commemorate 50 years of successful production and sale of the Urbanmech
(Omnimech), three new production configurations were created, each utilising new
technologies. However, the HPG blackout has caused sales of these 'Mechs to be limited to
only the neighbouring worlds of the factories.
