Overview:
The Hathor - named after the Egyptian ox goddess - represents the Taurian answer to the SLDF
problem. Indications of a hardliner approach to the Periphery began reaching the Taurian
Concordat as soon as the 2570s. Directive 21 issued by the First Lord against the Outworlds
Alliance was an especially rude wake up call. Fearing the Concordat would be next, the
Taurian Defense Force began war gaming invasion scenarios. The results of that were not
encouraging; the TDF was simply too small to stand off against the significantly larger SLDF
in a conventional engagement. Thus seeking an unconventional equalizer, the TDF began
specifying new designs, from which the Hathor was born.
Capabilities:
The Hathor was designed for two goals. First, a mass producible harasser unit, acting as a
low cost force multiplier for heavier TDF formations. Secondly, the design needed to counter
the SLDF's Stingers and Wasps. An AC2 mounted in the right arm provides the long range
stand-off capability, which keeps the mech out of heavier opponent's reach. A trio of Medium
Lasers - two in the left arm, one in the torso - ensures the Hathor outguns most SLDF light
units at close range. This heavy armament does come at a cost, in the form of a 150-rated
Fusion Engine and lacking Jump Jets. While the Hathor can usually keep out of range of
heavier combatants, the relatively low top speed does mean the Hathor can be forced into an
engagement by a determined opponent.
Hathors were often attached to dedicated fire support companies, where their autocannons can
supplement other long range fire, while using their Medium Laser batteries to discourage
spoiling counterattacks. Alternatively, they were assigned as part of mixed composition
cavalry missions, where a lance of Hathors are split into pairs, with each pair assigned to
providing cover for one of the other two lances. Oftentimes one of each pair would be
assigned to antiaircraft duty, loading their AC2 magazine with flak ammunition. The Hathor
would go on to serve with distinction during the Reunification Wars, but with the
Concordat's capitulation at the end and the surrender of the worlds with its manufacturing,
the mech was consigned to the history books.
