In my opinion this is the greatest test of machine and vehicle endurance currently around. There are the other 24 hour races, but the Le Mans circut is the most impressive, and the largest, taking a toll on the cars, and the drivers, like no other.

FYI, the race was hel this weekend, and the end results were interesting. Out of the 50 or 60 something cars to start the race, only 27 finished...and at the end it was the Audi R8 to take the #1 spot. This is the third year in a row that this team has placed first, beating the previous record (held by the Porsche factory team I think) of 2 consecutive wins. 2nd anr 3rd were taken by 2 other Audi R8s, proving Audi's current dominance of the sport. The 2 Audis were only 1 and 3 laps down from the leader, a close finish. The 4th place car, the sole Bently GTP finished 10 laps down. The 27th place car finished 226 Laps down, but still made the entire 24 hours, a feat not many can say they have accomplished.

In other reacing news the Acropolis Rally is done, Colin McRae taking his first win of the season. One highlight is Subaru's Peter Solberg...after a spin and stall on Day 1 which left him over a minute down and in 25th spot he tried his hardest to work his way up. End of Day 1, 17th place. End of Day 2...7th place. End of Day 3 and final standings, 5th, just inside the points bracket. The 2 points he gained pushes him up 1 pount above teamate Tommi Maikinen.

Next weekend is the European Grand Prix at Nurburing in Germany. Should be an interesting fight to see who takes 1st.

Well, it isn't anything nearly as nice as the 8-series of cars from Audi, but this is yet another reason I'm looking at an '02 or '03 A4.

And people wonder why I want to spend as much on a car as I want to.

If you want an Audi, i'd suggest an S4 Quattro...its like a BMW 330xi in most respects...but not as many people own Audis as BMWs (here at least).

They're all over the freakin' road here in New England...literally and figuratively.

Well, I do have to admit. The S4 is an impressive piece of automotive technology. My folks just picked up their Allroad, so I know how fun that 2.7L Biturbo can be (and that's in a wagon!), but here's my problem. As configured per my specifications, the S4 comes in at $42,945. Now if I went with the A4, per my configuration, it's $30,700. And that's the 1.8T engine ($35,960 with the 3.0L). Frankly, the 1.8T is already at the limit of my budget. Short of a major winfall, the S4 is not an option.

Though it would be nice to look 'em over in two years, when they get that V8 from the R8 model in Europe.....

Alright...

Good reasoning...
Have you happened to see the specs on VW's W12 yet? Pure wonderfulness!

Well, price is too much, and it's still a slushbox. Tiptronic may seem nice, but I still prefer a full-out manual transmission. And 4Motion is not the same as Quattro, and that does matter for me.

[added in edit]

Whoa. W12? I was looking at the W8. Hrm... must go research.

The W12 is the VR6 turned sideways and another VR slapped to it...thats the engine...

The car W12 uses the engine and looks like a Lambo (big suprise...VW owns them...).

Excuse me, I think I need to restart my heart. And here I figured the rumored V12 VW that has been floating around vaporware-space would actually be around Mercedes' 600 series. I mean, those are only going for $130k in this area.
