Every year when Mordel and I go to TotalCon we run into players who have played a rule wrong for a long time and are surprised when that rule comes up and they're shown they've been playing it wrong all these years.
I'm wondering if others have run into that, or if anyone has fallen into that trap themselves and were certain they were playing a rule correctly only to later find out they were wrong. _________________ www.210sportsblog.com

I remember skidding was one of them this year. But I seem to recall a second one as well that was misused? _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

yeah, skidding came up a couple of times this year, and there were a couple more but I'm old and don't remember what they were. Same guy for a couple of those rules too if I recall... _________________ www.210sportsblog.com

Out of necessity, the last time I ran a campaign I had to do several house rules and on-the-spot declarations. It was most convenient for us to play at someone else's house and so I could only bring a basic selection of manuals with me each night. I can only imagine what would happen if someone had tried to call things out. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." That one stumbles a lot of people up because virtually no one uses it in casual games...it's important because it sometimes determines LOS. _________________ www.210sportsblog.com

With the TW rules, intervening terrain and level is very simple. Negative heights don't really even matter. Per TW, if I'm 20 hexes away from you on L0 terrain, and you are on a Level -20 cliff bottom, but two hexes from the wall, we can see each other.
There used to be a formula and all kinds of silly stuff, but they drastically simplified it for the sake of speed of play. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

And that's what people tend to get wrong. Negative terrain offers ZERO cover under standard rules. TacOps/Advanced LOS takes into effect all that math/diagrams. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

That's a good one, and did come up a couple times. But in our case it was mostly because the player was fairly new. But in years past I have definitely seen players get so confused over it. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

I forget this one (critical hits transfer locations) a lot. It can speed up a game quite a bit.

A rule that i personally thought to be true for a very long time without that rule actually existing:
That jump jets have to be allocated symmetrically.
Even though it is logical for that rule to not exist because if jump jets are destroyed you can still use all remaining ones even if they are not symmetrical any more. _________________ Reality is where the Pizza-man comes from!'Gucken, petzen, verpissen!'
