I'm referring to the burnout on a hit roll of a 2 on a 2d6, when firing.
Maybe I misread some thing or failed to understand the rules.

So you want to avoid the potential penalty of using a piece of equipment that gives you a positive? _________________ www.210sportsblog.com

Not really just keep offline until I think the risks are equal to the payoff or have offline until short range I guess, but how would you rule that such as a piloting skill check and then d6 game turns till it come online or warms up, but the rules clearly state no firing while charging.

YOU CAN ALREADY DUE THIS!!!!
You can choose not to charge the capacitor until you get to effective range while firing the PPC normally each turn until you CHOOSE to charge it. You are not required to charge the capacitor. I repeat, you... are NOT... REQUIRED... to charge the capacitor. bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=73171.0
Its only once its charged that you HAVE to use it the next time that PPC is fired and face the short on a roll of 2.
Ex: turn 1, fire PPC normal; turn 2, charge capacitor; turn 3, hold charge; turn 4, dissipate capacitor; turn 5, fire PPC normal; turn 6, charge capacitor; and turn 7, fire PPC with capacitor and risk short. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.
