I was thinking of buying EQ (the classic, original version) for something to hold me over until Star Wars Galaxies comes out. I got this thing for a free 30 day trial of the game, so I think I might do it.
What do you think?

Played it a couple times, found it boring. Others are addicted.
Go figure...

What is EQ? It sounds familiar, but I cannot remember from where.

I could never stand those games. It is a favorite topic to poke fun of though. The Penny-aracde stuff does it best.

I alternated loving it and hating it...it's best played as a group, especially once you are past the first 4 or 5 levels or so...if you cna get a good group of friends going with it, you have some possibilities, otherwise, its pot luck...
Let's see...did the half elven ranger, the Wood Elven bard, the Troll warrior, the Dark Elf female warrior, a halfling druid (IIRC), maybe a few others...could swear I remember a dwarf in there somewhere...

Monks are a type of fighter they dont get the Hps of warrior but can out damage tanks in a heart beat you also have to wory about your weight carried to much and you lose ac.
Yes I play EQ and Love it if your just looking for something to hold you over till Starwars try warcraft or something less addictive and time consuming. (Im not being mean or sarcsastic I had held out on buying EQ till my wife started to beg to get it. since I got it in october Ive logged over 2 full months of total play time on 6 characters total, I still wish I hadnt started playing it)

I actually know I will be addicted and have the trouble not playing it. Right now, that is what I need...something to lose myself in to get over the...um. Nevermind...
My only problem is that only Humans can be a Monk. I want to be a Dark Elf Monk...be some sort of evil kung fu lord. ^^

I could swear I remember them allowing other races as monks...but it has been a while since I played (over a year since I dropped the account)...

Try a game called Dark Age of Camelot.. It has an EQ feel, but allows you to solo all the way up to the highest levels of the game.
I didn't particularly care for EQ, but I like DAoC alot.

Actually Iksars (Thing Nazis with Scales) can be monks and so can humans. Iksars also get a nice hp regen boost.
As for DAoC I couldn't get into it but not a fan PvP either. Most people I know played awhile and left though it does have it's on following.
As for a class I'd say one of the pet classes like a Magician, Necro, or Beastlord would be good if you wanna just play awhile till Star Wars comes out.
Though with all the recent fixes Magicians are alot more enjoyable with the pet exp penalty gone and pets being made neutral but hey I've spent 51 lvls playing one so I'm kinda bias here.
This EQ endorment has been brought to you by: Marlboro
(aka Mulkosaur Rex lvl 51 Elementalist Brell Serilis Union of Steel)
And yes I play to much but it's to drown my sorrows of no more Battletech.

My friend came to me with a good idea. He told me to drink a lot. Lowers Intel, right? But it raises strength.
Well...as I want to be a monk...I could drunk a lot, then go open up on some creatures of sorts. Kind of a drunken master thing...
I am sure its been done to death...but it would still be cool...
