Well, rather than letting this collecting dust in my hard drive, I thought I would share. Is an attempt to show people the stages that a piece of military hardware goes through, from the drawing board to the battlefield. I have put all my readings of books on tanks to use in this one, many of the technical details, flaws, production constraints and other stuff are drawn from real world examples.
Oddly enough, my design of the reloading mechanism for the autocannon is similar to the technical solution used in one tank of the 50s. The AMX-13 light tank, imagine my surprise and elation when I found it last week in the latest tank book I've bought! I thought of the same technical solution as a real world engineer did!
I'm sorry there are no stats, but the vehicle is basically a modified Scorpion tank, same overall stats, it just trades the AC/7 for an an AC/3, a SRM-2 rack, and a 1 ton passenger compartment. Cost is about 425.000 C-Bills.
There was a lot more I wanted to write, basically, you can write a whole book just to describe a tank in detail. I didn't cover the variants, and I don't know where my notes are.
The idea behind this vehicle was to set and standard for all the Inner Sphere, something that would replace the 10 tons APCs as the basic vehicle of mechanized infantry regiments all across the Sphere. Though this vehicle would be used by Houses Liao, Davion, and Steiner and mercenaries. Kurita uses a modified basic APC equipped with a MRM-10 launcher, and a 4/6 speed. And Marik went with a modified Galleon chassis, if the Alacran is analog to the Russian BMP, then the Marik modification of the Galleon would be equivalent to the Bradley.
Variants:
If memory serves right, the Steiner variant (Alacran-S) is renamed "Trident", it has increased passive protection for better survivability of the crew and passengers, and an emphasis in short range firepower for self-defense in close quarters, it has twin machineguns side by side of the AC/3 in lieu of the SRM rack, and the MG ammo is stored in a bulge on the turret rear, it's equipped with CASE for the MG ammo only, otherwise, the internal configuraton is the same.
The Davion variant (Alacran-D) is more heavily armed at the expense of range, intended for combat in the Chaos March rather than against the Clans. It uses a Light Autocannon (LAC-3) of Davion manufacture, there are heaps of them lying around, as they are unwanted by the 'Mechwarriors, something had to be done with the surplus. It keeps the hull mounted MG of the parent design, and a second SRM-2 rack is mounted on the right side of the turret, a very simple modification.
That's all, I hope this serves as an inspiration to other designers out there

NOTE: AC/3 = AC/2
AC/7 = AC/5

*snif*
Anybody interested in the IFV conversion of the Galleon? Or should I get on board the boat again?

You might want to post stats with the fluff. I don't have access to my 3025 or 3026, and it makes the reading a little more interesting when you can glance back at the stats.

I agree with Gangrene, stats would be helpful. Nice background...
I would say go ahead and post the other vehicles you mentioned w/stats and then we can compare all of them and comment better then.

Ahhhh....I just cannot design things under 1 million. Well, I bet I could, but I have a problem with making all my vechicles fast, armored, powerful, and luxoriously cargo spaced
I'll have to ask my best critic, Old Dog: I know this may sound absolutly ridculous to you, but can you find any glimmer of hope in your pocketbook for an *EXTREMELY* well armored/firepowered/cargo equiped/ clan 35-ton infantry fighting vechicle worth the 2.98 million c-bills it takes to fund it?
This thing is only 4/6 fusioned, but it has a UAC5, a streak srm2 with infernos loaded, 2 machine guns, and 2 er meds all slaved into a TC. Also, 2.25 tons of cargo space, all held together with 7 tons of ferro armor.
Vamp: I'm not meaning to rip off your design here, I just found it quite useful in theory and wanted to make a clan version of it. I'll probaly never get a chance to field this unit for real, but it's stuff fun to see how I can Clan these up and see how overblown I can turn the price tag into.
Comments, anyone?

Semi-back from a mini-vacation. AKA, "I really got hooked on pouring my freetime into Eternal Darkness."
For Vampire's, I need to sit down and have a looong read, so, it gets a reply later.
For a 3 million C-Bill *infantry carrier* that's as slow as a battle tank and overly-armed, no, I have to say that it's a boondoggle in my personal view. Clanners, particularly, just grab onto a passing Mech.
A dedicated Elemental carrier should come in at 10 tons, maybe 15, and have at least a 6/9 movement, and should, really, be even higher.
But, like I said: I'm biased.
