I personally don't think the novels have ANY impact on BattleTech whatsoever. The only people that even read the novels are those who play BattleTech. The novels are shaped around the BT Universe. BT is not shaped around the novels. Most of the people I know who play BT don't even read the novels. I read them when I get the chance, but I mostly just buy them to say I have them. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Remeber, the BT Universe is thought up outside of the novels. Sure, they use the novels to portray the events of the BT Universe. But that is all spelled out for us inside of Sourcebooks, Technical Readouts, and various other places. Even without the novels, the BT Universe would be completely the same. The only difference would be there wouldn't be an existence of those big talking birds we all want to kill... _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

You even said yourself that the novels basically gave te story line the novels lay out the new tecnology that then transfer to the source books not the other way around like protomechs for example they never would hve camer into being without the novels beacuse at the time the NOVELS not the rest of the BT universe required something new and that happened with alot ofthings including weapon andsuc the novels wee the BEST and cheapest way of introducing the new technologies to the BT universe and i will be a lot harder to do that with out then

You have a horse and cart issue here.
While there have been a small amount of times where the novels have generated rules and equipment, the vast majority of things are created before the books are written.
The novels are based on what the line developer decides the story arc will be, with the writters filling in all the minor details. In general, all the technology written about is already developed "game mechanically" so it can be released in a soursebook at a later date.
Because the general story is already written before the novel is the BT universe is shaping the novels, not vice-versa. Now occasionaly some of the minor details do turn out to be great ideas that do tweak what the original plan was, but as a whole BT shapes the novels.

i do agree thatnow that the novels will be gone the new stuff will be put into source books but come on would you rather read a $5 novel written by Michael A. Stackpole and have characters like Morgan Kell or..... by a $20-$30 source book and hae to go through all the technically stuff first just to learn about what the weapon is I'm just saying that with out the novel alot of people might loose interest in BT and also those who dont know abut are less likely to get into it

Can you do me (and probably everyone else) a favor and use punctuation in your posts, and proof read to correct the obvious mispelled words?
This isn't a chat room so a small amount of "gramatical correctness" is expected.
Once you repost your last message with some grammar corrections I'll be more than happy to respond.

I think most here would disagree with you about Stackpole being the best author. But I agree that if the novels were to go it would be a major blow to Btech. In my opinion they represent the acceptanc of the game and fictional universe by the general public. If the novels disappear the game might soon follow.
I also agree with chihawk in that your posts are a labor to read. Punctuation is good.

First off I'd like to say I'm sorry about the crappy grammar. Second off, I will read my last post and re-write it in a second. I just joined this little techy group and didn't know about alot of the stuff.
Ok, here is my ast post but with some grammatical changes. But my keyboard is kinda broken and sometimes the keys don' work, oh well here goes .
Oh, and what do you mean Michael A. Stackpole isn't the best author! I would like to hear what your opinion is. I mean come on like the blood of kerenskys and all the other wonderfull books he has written. Ok back to the subject here is my last post.
I do agree thatnow that the novels will be gone the new stuff will be put into source books. But come on, would you rather read a $5 novel written by Michael A. there happy

There are far more players of Battletech than readers of the novels. I doubt that the lack of novels will result in any loss of players.

So, you think porly of stackpole eh? May I ask why? and yes I do think that the loss of the novels will be a VERY bad thing. First the cards became obsolete now the novels, whats next? All thats left is the board game.
