Oh, I already did, but Milton Bradley made me stop.
Oh, and I probably could have had a better example there, too: Yatzee is spelled Yahtzee, and there already appear to be lots of free computer versions of the game on the net!

Well, even if the two things you mention aren't the best examples they ideas behind them are still good.

Gentleman,
Patent, trademark, and copyright laws are as complex as they come. It gets even worse when international borders are crossed. My company is embroiled in many of these. So much is up to how good your lawyers are, what the exact contract is, and how the judge feels. We are pissing into a hurricane if you think we know anything or can resolve anything. One example is this, what if Microsoft came knocking on Mordel's door? Even if Mordel is right, could he afford to fight them? My company has many patents, but GE, Phillips, Sylvania still sued us in an effort to slow us down and maybe get us to cross liscence. Not ethicial but legal in the business game. And why and how, because thier legal and marketing department have more people and money than our corporation. So this game, MegaMek, will exsist as long as it does not raise the ire of MicroChumps or learns how to jump address and countries very quickly.

hmmm.
Well I just wanted to get some feedback on the game itself, gameplay-wise and such. I wasnt exactly looking for a law-degree type discussion.

Good points, AWAD. As I mentioned, our company is involved in a lot of patents, and we're always working against out competitors in this area. Obiously, our major competitor (and Austrian company) spends a bunch more money on patent attorneys than we do, because it's simply amazing what they're able to patent. It's only a slight exageration when I say they seem to have be able to patent the wheel and get away with it! _________________ Rick

Nevermind. I bow the masters of everything. I would like to note that copyrights do expire and that if they are not resubmitted then the original holder looses all rights to that patent. Of course, i'm probably wrong again. Its probably me. whatever. remind me enver to argue around here. its pointless.

Okay. I found a website with info about law on various subjects, including the copyright.
Main Page
Software Copyrights
Enforcement
I am hoping that this site contains the answers to this debate, so that people can move on.

Considering I hate Microsoft and lawyers (in general), I would probably kick the sh*t out of him for good measure since I'm already being sued.

Gates. For a BattleMech does not really exist.

You know, try as I might I can't find any flaw in that statement.

I think Raven is right in all this. There has to be proof of harm before it can be copyright infringment. A little kid (or artist) can draw a picture of Mickey Mouse if they want to, and it is not copyright infringment. But if they try to sell it then it is infringmenmt.
