I think Raven is right in all this. There has to be proof of harm before it can be copyright infringment. A little kid (or artist) can draw a picture of Mickey Mouse if they want to, and it is not copyright infringment. But if they try to sell it then it is infringmenmt.

Actually, I believe that any public showing of such as their own can be copyright infringment. I am not sure how it applies if they say that it is a Disney (C) character that they borrowed.
Note: I am not a lawyer and do not know everything about law. So, I may be wrong.

The kid can draw Mickey Mouse because it's for his use only. He can also give it to his parent(s). That all falls under "fair use". It's the same "fair use" that allows you to copy that CD onto a cassette for use in your car.
But MegaMek doesn't fall under "fair use" because its not for the designer's personal use and directly violates MicroSoft's agreement with Wizkids, which is that MicroSoft has exclusve rights to produce computer versions of, and set in the game world of, Battletech.

Well personally I could give a rat's ass about the legal implications or whatever law section it even applies on.
Bottom line is that the game is fun just like the board game and it allows me to play against other BT enthusiasts from long distances.

You can find plenty of software for Linux. Games, word processing, music, you name it its out there. Most of it runs and looks better then the Windows equivalent. You just have to remember its all open source. And of course its all perfectely illegal to own because these people have an idea and decided to use it and this idea might somehow resemble something else (though it works and that other thing doesn't) so if you go and get this open source, given freely by the creator, you should just turn yourself into jail and worship Microsoft.

Most of it is not as refined, though. Linux games are rare, and come out later than their PC counterparts. This can also be said of most other software. Also, Windows is more user friendly, IMO. But I've ran a Win98 machine for the last 3 years and have not had serious problems result from the OS. Viruses, on the other hand . . .

Virus's on the other hand will kill you quick.
Not to mention that i've had no problem converting any Microsoft/Windows game over to my Linux box. I have starcraft, unreal tournament, i'm going to load Medal of Honor Allied Assault in a few days (once I figure out how I damaged the CDROM, I mean, hell it only dropped a few feet, and the stairs ARE padded). Basically anything I want goes on my unix box.
As to user friendlyness, by loading emulators, it can be very userfriendly!! hell, one of my buddies from Sun actually designed a Star Trek interface that even had the female voice to tell you why you could and couldn't do stuff! lol it was funny.
I use a windows like program that is actaully fairly easy to use known as XWindows. No one who uses X has ever had a problem that I know of. Its kinda fun. Not only that I can program for it too.
Raven, big fan of Linux and open source, and therefore a threat to the civilized galaxy that claims it can own and control electrons, reminds one of Dave Matthews "Don't Drink the Water" song...
