as i sat here thinking to myself........
damn that german 88mm anti-tank gun in that concreat bunker up on that hill is kickin the shit out of my forces.
then i go, wait..... bt has nothin like this. a weapon so powerfull, that its unlikly to be mounted on units, but be placed in an enplacement. a weapon that quickly damages and destroys armored units.... but only really scares the shit out of infantry.
why is this?
its only natural that weapons like this will be designed and used. say a anti-tank cannon, that does 40pts of damage, maybe even 60. weights like 50tons, maybe even more. is a hug weapon, taking up 30 crits. and will open up any armored unit, stupid enough to wander into its firing path.
whats your thoughts.....?

Well, HGR works sorta that way. You fire it at a tank or mech, and you'll probably kill or cripple it in 1 shot. Where as if you fire it at a squad of battlearmored infantry. You'll only kill 1 trooper. If i were the infantry, i'd be more likely to charge the guy with the HGR than the guy with 5 Medium Lasers.
Still, of course the infantry will be scared a bit, but they have a better chance of surviving against a unit that has only 1 big gun than against the 1 with a lot of little guns. Though if you're referring to Standard Infantry then, well, they're good as dead against most anything.
But then of course, I could just be misinterepting what you're trying to say too.

Special forces or aero assets would more than likely make the production and mounting of such weapons unfeasable except for maybe those old Castle Brians and maybe New Avalon.

Uh, hello! Artillery? No, it won't neccesarily kill armor in one shot, but it sure as shit will kill infantry dead. Fire it at a hex with a star of toads in it and what do you have? Dead toads. Beacause it damages everything in the hex and the hex around it. All you need is a piece of arty that does ten points of damage to the hex, a thumper or a long tom if I remember correctly.

He means something with a bit harder punch. something that will disable a assult mech in one hit where ever it hit. Arty just dosent do that.

he means direct fire weapon.
the reason why is that with super long range weapons.
like atry and orbital bombardment.
you can't afford to have a static defence against mech units or even vehicles.
static defence is used mainly for garrison forces for civilian.
much like the canadian military
(btw, i'm canadian )
anyways.
there's always the -4 to hit for an immobile target.

Hey, just give artillery a house rule of damage to everything in the hex, like your mech's center torso, left torso, right torso, etc. Suddenly makes artillery pretty damn awesome, eh?

Why not take a NAC or any of the other weapons and use that?
Wouldn't be the first time a naval weapon has been used a direct fire weapon or on land...
The US Tank Destroyer the M10 started out the war with a modifed 3in (75-76mm)naval gun and some test were done to see if a 5in (127mm) would work but it was cancelled before it really got off the ground...
The US also had a 120mm AA Artillery gun that would have been impressive against armor as would the Brits 3.7in AA Gun.

all interesting ideas........ truelly.
as for those who feel there outdated, bah..... artillery can only do so much to static defenses.... thicken the armor, n your arties useless, add anti-arty arty support, arty is useless.
mechs are the main concern now. and even these wonders need to have a logistical supplie line, usually cargo trucks, and if you put enplacments at major junkions of movement, you'll force 1]a conflict and fight or 2] the enemy to go around. either way, you making the enemy dance to your tune.
with the reduction in fighting techniques of the bt universe, emplacements are quitew effective.
