As a long time gamer, it has occured to me that I consistantly roll below average over the long haul.
A friend of mine and I were speaking of this the other evening, and chuckling about my 20 year losing streak in RISK, and I brought that up.
He said that more likely it was just my perception, because the laws of chance mathimatically prove what I was saying simply could't happen.
"Well," I said, "If I consistantly roll below average, and there is someone else out there that consistantly rolls ABOVE average, wouldn't that be the same math as if I were doing all the rolls? If true, doesn't the math then balance out?"
I think I stumped him on that. A little question to the forum... Any one else out there think they either roll statisically above or below average?

Under the Law of Large Numbers, a non-rigged die roll will average out more and more for how many trials you do. However, it's not like that in a game situation, you don't mathamatically and scientifically roll each die. How you roll it, what side it was when you picked it up, and a whole bunch of intangibles can all effect it. Statistically you may roll below average, but stats don't mean much when you throw down.

I can tell you Horhiro has dice that consistently roll higher than average. In fact his brother and I have banned those dice from use when we game.

I would have to say that the subject of your post applies to me too. I cannot get a good die roll no matter how hard I try. The only good rolls I get are for damage, where I can normally hit the CT with a good number of shots. But even then it is usually with small weapons. I end up picking my opponents apart piece by piece. Which sucks for the salvage operations.

Yeah, I recall the first time I ever saw a UAC20 in play. Horhiro was piloting the mech, first time he's in range he declares a double fire and rolls a deuce.
(whirrrrrr...clunk! chang! Damn it!)

That's at a range of what, 9. I've had a Gauss to the head at 21. Now that sucks....

Yes, that was really lame. What sucked was that no one fired on me after that! I couldn't even sponge up some damage for my star mates as they had no fear of me from that point on (couldn't even engage in physicals!)
That's why I like the new RACs, cause you can unjam them.

I too hate my dice I'm always under average but tiger on the other hand..... I think his dice are loaded or something.

Rolling dice is not purely random, or else it would be as he said. I believe (but have no proof) that many dice are not purely homogenous and have a tendency towards a side, and that people can get skilled at rolling a certain pair of dice. It seems to work for me (see whoop'in Talen thread in the general forum).

No. They are completely separate actions and not at all related.
