I ran across this in the fluff of a mech from Far and Away Magazine called the NATE...it was based on racing mechs and was an old SLDF super scout mech that was faster then anything around...
So would there be mech racing going on different planets or would this be solely a Solairs deal?

I am toying with the idea of a couple of Solaris 7 BattleMech football teams [American style of course, though it tends to resemple rugby more I think].

I think it would be popular somewhere else. When you consider the cost of a mech and how much a straight up fight cost. A race could be a cheap alternative. To worlds where the games take forever to reach.

Having playtested a ton of different sports ideas in mechs you'll find that soccer (or if you like playing on ice--hockey) is the easist as far as combining Battletech with sports.

I'd suspect that there would be racing on a lot of planets.
I really don't have anything to back up that opinion other than human nature: "if it goes fast we'll race it.:
Pinhead and Mordel run a race at the cons we attend (which I've adapted for PBeM) which would seem to something that could easily be done anywhere.

Soccer? I would have never thought of that sport for btech. Care to give any details?

My new rules are in the middle of being play tested, so when I get them finalized I'll be glad to post them. My old rules (which I convered to hockey) have had many holes ripped in them so I'd prefer not to post them.
Several here (Pinhead, Mordel, etc) have played it at TotalCon a few years back and have begun asking for it to return. So once the rules are finalized I'll be glad to share

Yeah, and it better find a slot for itself this year at TotalCon, or I'll be very very upset... _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

I think it should be ready in time for Total.
Might require a small gathering for a final playtest though

I'd have to imagine that the boards would have to be pretty tough to play BattleMech Hockey! I would have to assume that Assaults would play the enforcers, with lights as the forwards!
Alexander (still pales in comparison to a good old fashioned Monkey knife fight!)

You would be correct! And it's amazing what you can get away with sometimes when the refs aren't looking, and when it isn't too blatantly obvious. I remember getting several cheap shots in and the refs didn't see (hint: only do it when you're AWAY from the puck).
But I also remember a certain someone doing like a 15 hex charge into someone against the boards. I thought he took more then two steps, and the refs agreed.

And what was the punishment for that penalty?

I believe you made me sit in the penalty box for 2 turns.. But the mech I destroyed was replaced with one the pilot was not familiar with and he had a lower pilot and gunner skill... so it was more than worth it.. Once you killed ... err disable... errr smacked the fast guys a couple good shots, they don't run so fast..

No, the penalty box was only for minor infractions
The penalty in the case mentioned was having to take fire from the 0 gunner Daishi referee and the 2 1 gunner Viper linesmen.
It's refered to as "The Death Penalty"
