Some ally, huh?

Do our troops also have to be careful not to use harsh language around them?

The Canadians are pretty ticked off because during and since the Gulf War the US Air Force has had a little problem with noticing the troops on the ground they are strafing are on their own side. They have rules of engagement for a reason.

I might be remembering this wrong, but didn't we lose more people to friendly fire, mostly air force fire, during Desert Storm than were killed by the Iraqis? Or a number real close to that?

If I remeber right among other dead the Air Force blew away a Marine APC full of troops and during that fracas the Corps was real big on being supported by their own Marine pilots and not the Air Force even before that happened.

I'm not sure, but I know that in Afghanistan it seemed we lost a lot of Allies to misguided munitions and a lot of our own to crashing 'copters and planes.

I don't think you have to say that.

I'm Master Corporal Alexander, B Squadron, South Alberta Light Horse, 41 CANADIAN Brigade Group. I don't take jabs at my military lightly, (unless it's from within my own military!)

The point here is that the two pilots f'ed up, and the American powers that be have punished them according to their decision.

I must ask, though, how would you feel if American friends of yours were killed the negligent actions of one of our pilots? I lost friends that day, through no fault of their own, or of the Canadian leadership who did everything right according the rules of organizing a live fire exercise in a RECOGNIZED Coalition training area. The fact that the Pilots violated the Rules of Engagement, and were basically lost is why they are getting their punishment.

Alexander

I'm sorry if I offended you, Alexander, that was certaintly not my intent. It seems my habit of saying just the wrong thing without meaning to has carried over into Message Boards. To be perfectly honest, I'm incredibly embarassed by all the mistakes made by the American millitary machine. I'm rather happy that the pilots are being charged this way, although I'm not sure manslaughter is a sufficiently severe charge. Although, as I myself have no affiliation with millitary, I have no right to judge. Guess I'm a hypocrite.

It has always seemed to me that the millitary tries hard to protect it's own, even when it should be more impartial. 'Course, again that is really not my right to judge. Again, if offended anyone before or in this post, I apologize.

No apology necessary. I'm not offended by anything that you or anyone else has written here. I just feel that it is my duty to enlighten the masses on the other side of the story.

And as to the severity of the punishment... it's not really my place to say whether or not I agree with the charges. I do feel that they should be held accountable for their actions, although I don't know if that is the right way to go about it.
