After looking at some of the recent naval designs, I've decided to make my own contriubtion to the new interest for naval warfare. Here are my rules, for the sub killing depth charges. I did my best to make this realistic. Please give some feed back.
Depth Charge Rack/K-Gun
Mass: .5
Items: 1 (May only be mounted on ships or aircraft (DFA!))
Heat: 0
Damage: 10
Short: 1
Medium: 0
Long: 0
Ammo per ton: 5
Weapon Cost: 25,000
Ammo Cost: 500
Weapon BV: 11
Ammo BV: 1
Rules: Depth Charges are indirect damagers, you don't target units, just hexes at a specific depth. They will explode at that depth and damage any submerged units at that depth (I'm using that word a lot.) with a single 10 point smack.
Arming the Charges: You can arm any number of depth charges in the end phase of a turn. You must specify what depth you are arming the charges for, and write it down so when they go off and destroy your opponents Neptune they know you're not cheating.
Any ideas? I think they're powerful, but handicapped by usefulness. I may include more ammo to offset the fact that you won't want such a specific weapon taking up a lot of room.

Lemme get this straight- each of the suckers weighs half of a ton? If so, it might just be better for the fighter to have bombs on it tagged as anti-shipping charges.
The sheer physics of the depth charge alone means that even if the direct explosion doesn't damage a ship/sub, the resulting shockwaves will. This is where the joke about the fish and the dynamite comes from- most of the fish killed die becuase the shockwaves kill them. For a good visual of this, get the anime Blue Sub No. 6 and check out the naval battle sequences. You can probably also see this in any good sub-era naval film.

Saw Blue Sub No. 6 (Pretty good too), and each of the suckers weighs 400 lbs. I think that's still not enough since the BT universe has better explosives. And the shockwave is why all units at that depth take damage. But those hexes are 30 meters so I hesitate to increase the range.
That launger weighs a half ton. I could drop it to a quater I suppose, but then the math gets weird.
As for Ammo, how about 10 per ton? That makes the depth charges 200lbs each.

That would work, actually.

The smart sub commander will put a torps into ya before you can get in range, but with enough hydrofoils or VTOLs you might be able to scare him.

Yeah. Just like in real life a single depth charge is useless. But they're cheap and simple so you can flood the field with them.
I did some homework on them before I tried this and found that depth charges are generally launched several at a time, with differing depth settings in a pattern. So these are mostly useful in that capability.

While you're working on this, did you ever consider dam busters too?
Now those babies might be sweet in BTech.

Actually no...I wonder if that would be really useful though?
I mean, how many dams do you run across?
And most dams are civilian structures, not military. I'd prefer to restrict my designing of weapons to ones that don't kill indescriminately.

The thing about the dam buster is that if used right, it can be a part of any surface battle in BTech. The only problem is that- and this is even admitted in the manuals- that BTech was designed never even considering wet naval warfare on this level.
