You are building a level 1 vehicle, it's 40 tons has 5 tons armor, speed is 6/9. Now do you go with a PPC or Large Laser as it's primary armament? Secondary weapons are an SRM 4 (25 shots) and 1 Medium laser. Optional if you want to add on something else if there is room.

i'd go with the large laser....
it has no min range, and at that speed you'll be able to enter range quickly.

I'd go with an AC/10 myself. One, it weighs less (no heat sinks), and you can get about 20 rounds of ammunition. It backs a good wallop, you'll get it into range quickly, and it has the same range as the Large Laser but for two more points of damage and no heat.

Raven's response brings up a good point, does it mount a fusion engine? If so, try the laser. If not, don't mount lasers period and try the AC.

While he brings up a good point, the choices are limit to the two main weapons listed...so sorry no AC/10s.
And yes the tank has a fusion engine.

I always prefer energy to ammo.
So my vote is the PPC. as a vehicle I wouldnt let anything get close enough to be in minimum range.

Larger Laser is the obvious choice.

I'd have to agree, Large Laser all the way.

Wow, Ruger we agree on something. The Large Laser is the way to go. The extra range and damage are quite enought to overcome the min Range. Especially for Level 1.

What's the mission profile? This makes a large difference.
If it was a combat unit, I'd suggest the PPC as a range balance for the other weapons.
If it's garrison, harrasing, or raiding, I'd say the laser as it would often be within the PPC's minimum too often.

Multi-roled. Will be a front line unit.

Then I'd say use the PPC. It gives you a long-range punch, while the SRM and laser back it up with short and medium range firepower.
BTW, what locomotion type is this?

Tracked, with a fusion engine, there will be a hover version done, but first the prototype is a tracked vehicle.

PPC on the tracked, Large Laser on the hover. The hover will, on average, keep you constantly within or near minimum range unless you train the user tactically in staying at range to harrass. Also, the large laser gives you the extra tonnage for the lift fans.
As it is, for a multi-purpose job I'd suggest staying with a tracked type- it's more versatile except for naval combat.
