==Overview==
The Russian Defense force has participated in a number of exercises with other worlds, both as invaders and as the defenders. These wargames have taught the Russians a valuable lesson: in an invasion, an attacking force will seek to destroy all resources and C3 targets as soon as possible to make it as hard as possible for the defenders to prosecute a defense. This limits the combat and gets more of the invaders home safely. Unfortanitly it leaves the defenders helpless before a well coordinated invasion force.

Bryant was different, however, and actually had always had a sure fire defense. Most of the important military instilations on Bryant were in special underwater bunkers, scattered across oceans and deep lakes. With very few military instaliations on dry land, much of the Russian Defense force would have to adapt to being a wet navy. Because of this, the Russians have invested much of their R&D research into devising new naval units to use in the defense of their military instalations, the Akauela, or Shark, is one such.

==Capabilities==
The Russians have had some success with using the Wolf Submarine against Cappallen funded insurgents in their southern hemisphere. However they know that if the Cappallen Confederation comes in force, they can expect to see a lot worse then converted fishing boats and the occasional Monitor or Neptune submarine. The insurgents have more then definitly informed the CCAF about where most of the military instilations are, and the state of the Russian Military. So to prepare against the day when invasion is emminent the FSB continues to hunt down spies and the RDF R&D department continues to work hard on creating weapons that can be used effectively underwater.

The Akauela is a 80 foot long 30 foot wide two below deck submarine. With four crew, one officer, and three sailors, and 28 marines, it makes for very cramped living. As such, except during military manuvers most Akauela are surfaced with crew stretching their legs on the hull. The turret housing the AC/5 is an especially popular place and is used to house a temporary kitchen when surfaced so that the area inside can be used to play cards, drink, or smoke. This tactical situation is useful however on boarding operations when the Marines can't wait to get off ship. At other times, the Akauela will travel with only a light compliment and two tons of cargo. The flexability of the design is key.

When attacking the submarine has many options. Against surface boats the Akauela tends to sneak up underneath the boat and then allow its marines to swim up and either plant bombs on the sides of the craft or board her, in an effort to take the ship over. Other options include firing its torpedo systems off at the ship, sinking it from below. When surfaced the Akauela can still fire its torpedos as well as bringing its Autocannon to bear. Although not as strong as other weapons the AC/5 has good range and can be used to bring down aircraft. It can also be used to sweep a shore before infantry swarms land.

Working in teams of three, the Akauela's are more then a match for the Neptune submarine, though it weighs twice what they way. It is pack fighting which keeps the Russian Submarine force so effective, as well as underwater weapons emplacements that the submarines use as bases of operation. To this day, of three serious invasions, none have reached past the MLR of the Russian Navy.

==Variants==
Currently there are no variants, though some plans call for a stronger torpedo ship, and even others are considering looking at options to make this hull hold artillery pieces for shore support.
