Targeting & Tracking System: Dzerhezinsky VARI3
==Overview:==
Named for one of the most famous Soviet Generals from the Great Patriotic War, the Zhukov is a direct responce to the Rommel and Patton tanks. Czar Nicholas was determined to find a weapon system that would be the mainstray of his tank forces, something that would be THE Russian design. His efforts would result in the unveiling of the Zhukov
Part of the reason for this was because many people had figured out that as the Russians continued to pay a licence fee for their Po Heavy Tanks, a main unit of the Russian tank divisions, that this money was sent to the Cappellen Confederation, and from there into the hands of insurgents who opperated on worlds like Bryant. With the unvieling of the Zhukov, Nicholas plans on shutting down the Po lines, and eventually replacing all Po Heavy Tanks with the Zhukov, Molotov, or the T-121, which will become the main battle tanks of the Russian army.
==Capabilities:==
The Zhukov has good armor, good speed, and good weaponry, all down for a low price. Against its primary competitors, it is already ahead. However, it only gets better. The Zhukov is litterly an incredable piece of engineering on the part of Russian designers, and most especially on the behalf of recently hired Uziel the Vagabond. From his design table has emerged some great tanks, but this one takes the cake.
In combat against the Rommel and Patton tanks the Zhukov can perform incredable flanking manuvers, usually with lighter infantry carrying tanks. Its high speed allows it to outmanuver many of the older heavier tanks seen in the Inner Sphere today. Fast speed, is one of the biggest weapons of the Zhukov, and it is rare to see Zhukov units not exploiting it to its fullest.
The RAC/2 mounted in the turret, thanks to the efforts of both Russian engineering and NAIS assistence, makes a powerful, long range weapon for attacking opponents, even BattleMechs. This is backed up by a single machine gun to keep infantry from attacking the quick tank. With almost the same damage profile as an autocannon/10, the signiture weapon of the Po, the increased speed and huge reserves of ammunition have made this weapon truly respected by the tanks crews.
Finally there is enough ammunition to take a guass rifle slug to any single location. This sort of heavy armor, combined with the speed and fire power combine to make one of the deadlist tanks on the market.
==Variants:==
Currently there are no variants to the Zhukov.

Did you know that there is already a Zhukov tank?
It's quite a bit larger and slower but mounts dual AC/10s and an SRM6.

No. its the REAL Zhukov. that other thing has no respect for General Zhukov's fighting brillance, his dependency on fast manuvering and overwhelming force. That tank should be named Kesserling.

Hey, the (FASA) Zhukov is a fine machine with ample overwhelming force. It's certainly not what you would call swift though. No argument there.
EDIT: Who is Kesserling? The name is familiar...

Yeah but he was no match for Rommel or even Paulus (sp?) and was DEFINITLY no match for Zhukov. He liked overwhelming fire power (i.e. Blitzgrieg), but didn't understand defensive engagements very well, nor did he understand the true strength of the Russians.

It's in the Wolf Dragoons Sourcebook...
Here is the stats for it:
BattleTech Vehicle Technical Readout
VALIDATED
Type/Model: Zhukov Heavy Tank
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3025
Config: Tracked Vehicle
Rules: Level 1, Standard design
Mass: 75 tons
Power Plant: 225 I.C.E.
Cruise Speed: 32.4 km/h
Maximum Speed: 54.0 km/h
Armor Type: ArcShield Max I Standard
Armament:
2 SarLon MaxiCannon Autocannon/10s
1 Harvester 20K SRM 6
Manufacturer: Aldis Industries
Location: Betelgeuse
Communications System: Olmstead 30
Targeting & Tracking System: Cirxese BallistaCheck w/ Cirxese RockeCheck
==Overview:==
The Zhukov is Aldis Industries' follow-up to its successful Demolisher design and incorporates several elements from that vehicle. Smaller and less heavily armed than the Demolisher, the Zhukov features better armor and a lower profile, reducing its battlefield vulnerability. Wolf's Dragoons were the first large unit to use the Zhukov, beginning in 3030. Over the course of the past twenty-eight years Aldis has made many design refinements based on suggestions from Dragoon commanders.
==Capabilities:==
The Zhukov is an evolutionary design. Its hull and turret are different from those of the Demolisher, but its running gear, suspension, transmission and automotive controls remain the same. The autoloader for the SarLon MaxiCannon is also very similar to the autoloader of the Demolisher's ChemJet 185mm guns.
Though the Demolisher appears to outclass the Zhukov-with similar armor protection and ammunition load, and weapons with almost twice the throw weight of the Zhukov's-the Zhukov is nevertheless a superior machine. Its SarLon autocannons have a significant range advantage over the Demolisher's ChemJets, and a Zhukov commander can aim and fire the weapons from a sight mounted on his cupola. Additionally, the Zhukov's smaller silhouette, lower weight and lower ground pressure give this vehicle significant tactical advantages over its larger cousin. The most extreme example of this advantage was demonstrated during the War of Andurien Succession in 3031 on the planet Watermael. Marik commanders threw a battalion of Zhukovs in the path of a battalion of enemy Demolishers that had broken through the front and were headed for the Marik logistical base. The Demolishers came charging through a vast field of standing sugar cane, bounded on the right and left by marshy fields that had been flooded in preparation for spring planting. The lighter Zhukovs could traverse the marshes more easily than the heavy Demolishers. The tall, dense cane blocked all the vehicles' gunnery sights, but the Zhukov commanders could track the Demolishers' movements by observing the waving cane and firing the guns at the movement. By the time the Demolishers pushed through the cane fields and into effective firing range, twenty-five of the battalion's tanks lay burning in the cane. The Zhukov battalion wiped out the remaining Demolishers within minutes.
==Deployment==
The Zhukov is in service with Wolf's Dragoons, the Free Worlds League and the Capellan Confederation. Other Inner Sphere Houses have bought small numbers for evaluation, but none have made major investments in this vehicle.

I'm worried that this thing has no real killing capability, since your doing a max of 12 damage to several different sections to a target. I'm guessing this is supposed to be grouped for mass-attack vollies of RAC2 shells; otherwise this just dosen't have any real stopping power.

the therory is that you'll fight 2 to 1, and the rac/2 while not holding as much punch combines range with the lethality of an srm 6. thats were its true threat enters against vehicles, and it was designed to counter the patton/rommel that what it needs.

Remember, what makes SRMs so deadly against tanks is that each little missile gets a role on that "tank critical hit" chart. These tanks do the same thing with their RAC/2's, and they are definitly meant for grouped attacks. With enough fire power, and a little luck, these little bastards can leave any force burning in their wake.

Besides a WWII German General, it's also the Precentor of ComStar's Sixty-sith Division, which is probably where I heard it.
