True...all Lucas would say about it was Ankain fell into some acid/lava...that has been his standard line for the last 15 to 20 years on the topic...
The third movie should clear it up...and we will have the answer for sure.

That's odd... the Star Wars RPG mentioned that Darth Vader suffered grievous injuries caused by the light saber of Obi Wan.
I suppose the lava/acid thing was made up later.
And the rest of his physical deterioration could be attributed to the side effects of the Dark Side.. take a look at Palpatine.
And about Episode I...bad movie, but passable as entertainment, Episode II was better, specially for the battle scenes.. but it was not great.
They are just marketing products that prey on the Star Wars junkie crowd.. but they don't have the magic of the original trilogy.
And..must stop.. using suspensive dots... next time .. I'll.. start adding.. breathing noises *wheeze*

Persoanlly I trust an interview with Lucas over the RPG...given that there are two versions of the SW RPG out there.
The one done by West End Games and the current one being done by WOTC...
Hell even Marvel and Dark Horse have gone with the lava/acid idea when they have dropped hints...odds are it could be a combo of the two. Obi-Wan and Anikin fighting...Obi-Wan hurts him and causes him to fall into the lava/acid and we next see him as Darth Vader.

I just don't get all the people that have knocked either movie. All 1,2, and 3 are is the first third of the whole story. Would you toss a Wheel of Time novel because every new chapter you read does not thrill you more than any other chapter you have ever read before?
People, I hate to break it to ya, but there were just two Death Stars, and they've already exploded. You're not going to see an explosion that big in a Star Wars flick again.
What Lucas is doing is filming the rest of the story like he always wanted to, where before he only had the power to film the middle part. Episode 1 is simply and only that, it is episode 1, the start of the story. If you were expecting to see the Death Star explode I refer you to parts 4 and 6.

Robert Jordan's writing style might not be everyone's cup of tea. He's very verbose.
I've read everyone so far and I'm half way through Winter's Heart.

No I didn't and don't expect to see the Death Star blow up in Ep1 or 2...what I expected was more indepth detail about the Republic and the backstabbing intrigue and such. What we got was Jar Jar.
Climatic fights and such are SW...and we have those. And yes I know that these movies are the first third of the over all story..even still there are just somethings that don't need to be there...

but thats something else, these movies are trying to appeal to a larger audiance and the sw that we (mabey its just me) know. thats composed of 6/10 action, 2/10 dry humor, 2/10 dialogue and for lack of a better word, fluff. these new movies dont follow these guidelines like the first(middle, whatever it doesnt matter) 3
did. and i think they are suffering to appeal to everyone so they can sell coffee mugs and flame throwers ...wait wrong movie.
