This is an idea for a scenario that I came up with.
It takes place in a kingdom that is almost completely islands. 50 years prior, an orcish navy set sail and began conquering the kingdom. In their arrogance, they decided to only send half their fleet (they had been using all of it) against the next island in the series. Bad mistake- the kindgom had focused much of their surviving navy and army on that island, using a lighthouse as their command post. The out-gunned orcs were easily defeated; only one ship survived to flee.
This defeat lead to a truce, with the orcs giving back all but two islands. To one of these islands was exhiled the former owners of the lighthouse, who refused to permit the military use of the lighthouse.
50 years later, the half-orc grandson of the original owners has decided on payback and has taken a team of orcs with him. They have successfully snuck back onto that island and have taken the lighthouse, which the party must now reclaim.
How does this sound?

speaking of D&D, I actually had this scenario idea before after talking with some D&D player about my MechWarrior RPG Char somehow getting thrown through this rift or somesuch into thier d&d char. I'm not really up on the d&d rules so we started wondering how well the rules would/could mesh and/or if the MW char could be somehow easily converted over for actual use within the d&d rules. I think it would be sorta fun to go stomping around in a d&d game with my battlemech . Or maybe a vehicle. Or perhaps just a battlesuit incase the others are a little too much. "What? A Dragon? Let's give'em a taste of a Heavy Gauss Rifle!"

SHADOWKING:
Get a hold of the Comet boxed set for 2nd Ed.
Would give you an idea of how to implement it.
Then get an Alternity players handbook. Conversion rules for 2nd Ed AD&D _________________ Loyalty above all else except honour!

Did you ever check out the Stardrive setting?
I ran it succesfully twice, each time for more than a couple of months.
The other three times where when it just came out, and I had way too many people. 6 the first, 8 the second, and a dozen on the third attempt! _________________ Loyalty above all else except honour!

No I didn't. I really hated the system, and I felt that it was way to easy to die. Everytime we got into combat I almost died with one hit. It wasn't a lot of fun at that point, even when I bought good armor, I still almost died with 1 or 2 hits.
