Well with Christmas fast approching and with it a MASSIVE amount of bordom on my part, there is a good chance that I will get off my lazy bum and work on my Merc unit's history and Fan fiction. I'm looking for a design to use as my command Mech, All Tech levels are exceptable however Lv2 would be nice. What I'm looking for is an assult design with heavy armor, good speed, and hitting power at long and medium range, I have preferance tworard Lasers due to the lack of Ammo. IS or Clan does not matter, one thing with IS designs I truly love is Melee weapons however that is not a must have. If theres anything else, just ask.

Vagabond, I'm ashamed of you! Don't you know you're supposed to disguise it as a new unit first? LOL just kidding. Yeah, go with the BattleMaster, and remember, if your commander is engaging in Physical Fighting, you have a real problem on your hands.

Try using the new Cyclops with the new high tech weapons. Those one-eyes always make for good command mechs usually as I think they come standard with special 'fluff' computer equipment for commanders.

Actually for a comman mech, I stay away from anything that has a physical weapon. They tend to become MUCH BIGGER TARGETS. I cna speak form experience, especially from Mordel's Sudden Impact Game.
Melee weapons draw to much attention to a mech (unless a lot of your mechs have melee weapons that is.) They stand out way to much, making them easier to spot and recognize as the CO's mech, and thus a nice inviting target for the enemy to focus on.

Plus a CO is supposed to stay AWAY from the battle. If you rush in like a Beserker, chances are you will go down and the unit will be rudderless.
Cyclops (Try to rip out the AC for a Gauss if it's an old one), Banshee (One of the New-Techs /w Light Engine), Archer (not really an assault, but who cares?). BattleMaster is a good choice, but you may have to customize it slightly. Zeus is also good, but like many others I have mentioned, it lacks a good close range profile and a melee weapon.
I would reccommend a Heavy though. Still good armor, but you'll prolly be in a faster machine that can pull out of trouble rather than be shot up trying to escape.
If none of the above are good enough, IM me and I will design you something. But I should think one of those would at least be a good starting point...

I don't have Heavy metal or any of the TROs, because I just got into the original PNP game and am short on cash right now so I have no clue what the stats of a Battlemaster are.

Click on the Great Houses TROs, Mechs.
Click on 3025 and go up from there. You will find Battlemaster in Assault category, do not forget to look at the top of the Mech's TRO page for its varaints (you will see three names, the first name is the one before this mech and the second name is the current Mech you are looking at, and the last name is either the current mech's varaints or the mech after it.)

I would go with either the Battlemaster or the Devistator. I have always felt the Battlemaster was a superior mech but could be improved on here and there. The Devistator is a far superior longrange mech it mounts 2 PPC's and 2 Gauss rifles (4 tons of ammo) and 4 medium lasers. My command mech is a Devistator that has been upgraded with Clan tech.
If you want a Brawling mech look further down for the Legionnaire in the design board. The only thing is its a Lvl 3 design (It mounts a Mace why thats lvl 3 I dont know). But its devestating at short range and decent at long.

Overview
Following on the sucess of the Hatchetman, Axman, and Beserker battlemechs. The design team at Johnston INC. decided to try out their hand at a Meele mech as they have come to call them. The design team had decided to use the Battlemaster chassie, with some slight modification and strengthening the desing quickely began to take shape. Designed to be the True king of the battlefield the Legionnaire can choose to stay at range and snipe away with the pair of ER PPC's or it can close with a emeny and let the Hatchet and 6 med and 4 small bore lasers bring a quick end to the opponet.
Capabilities
Built around a 360XL (A choice that the team wasnt to pleases with till testing began) The Legionnaire has speed that is uncommon for most mechs its size. When Paired with the Triple-strength myomer, and a compentent pilot the Mech can close much quicker than expected and bring the 6 ton hatche in to play. The Jump jets were added to help with mobility and to increase battlefield performance.
Deployment
Currentely still in prototype stage the Legionnaire is slated to have a full production run later this year. At which point the Federated Suns will begin to distribute them to all qualified mechwarrior. Following the next year after the second run, half of every other run will be sent to the SLDF and then the other half will be sold on the open market.
Variants
The Only known variant at this time replaces the Hatchet with the Mace, Ths change increases meele output by 50%. This design is still rare as none have been seen in existance.
Well tell me what you think. I spent alot of time on this one with the heat and damage curve. At short range it can in 1 round fire all the med's and short's and walk and go up to +9 on the Heatscale to utilize the TSM. After that at close range it just keeps firing the Med's to maintain it's heat curve and maintain the engaged TSM.
Overall its a devestating mech at close range it can completely destroy a assult mech close range (if the pilot hits with the mace) in 2 rounds or less. I am just waiting for a improved Hardened armor to make the design truly terrifying.

That's nice, Stinger, but as far as command 'Mechs go, I'm not sure if it's safe. "Weapon" 'Mechs tend to be the first engaged in Long-Range massed fire. A good bodyguard, yes, good command 'Mech...maybe. Depends on your enemies' priorites.
