Clan honor can really be a hinderance.
In the battle of Monte Diablo. I joined a group of players that I have never met before. When I explained that I had almost always played with clan honor. They asked me to throw that idea of playing out the window for the duration of this battle.
Well, It did make sense. And I was not playing MY character. So I played by IS rules of combat.
WOW!!! As a unit. you guys play dirty. In the clans. we cannot fire on a target that already has two oppenets in that round (To do so would start a Grand Melee. which is the nastiest form of combat). But in the IS unit play. We had up to six players shoot one target. OUCH!!
Also. In the clans. You do not actively seek back shots. Ambushes are frowned upon. as are phycials attacks. Not in the IS.
Which brings up a question.
Was clan honor FASA's way of evening the playing feild agaist the clans high tech and weapons?
And have you ever played with clan honor. or would you ever?

Maybe your idea about evening the playing field could be applied to game mechanics, but I can't realistically see the Clans having so much honor. It dosen't make sense, war is war: fair is bringing all my men home, **** the enemy. _________________ I have the right to remain silent. Anything I say will undoubtedly incriminate me.

AAAHH. but you see. War is the way of life to the clans.
To die in battle. is the most honorable way to go. It is not unlike the Kamazees of WW2. other then the fact, that it is OK to live after a battle.

I'd play with Clan Honor anytime.

Maybe you missed a topic where chihawk and myself both mentioned that people who use the Clans proerly to fight the IS, generally find it not always an easy battle. And that is because of the equalizer of following that clan honor. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

I fought a Clan battle at Total Con, where we were supposed to be recruits taking our tests.
Rules were: Kill as many instructors as possible, one at a time. If you ever shot at a target that was not yours you would start a grand melee, where everyone would be free to enter.
Started 3 students against 5 testers, as you killed your opponent another stepped in. My first opponent died quickly, but I took significant damage in each torso. My second opponent was just about dead when one of the students decided it would be fun to try to steal my kill, and fired at my target. Of course when he did this, I was by far the closest to the side where the last mech a Daishi was waiting and hurt me badly.. Punched through my right torso, and removed my left arm.. removing every weapon I had.
As luck would have it my second opponent was kind of not thinking and decided not to move when his initiative came next turn. I charged him (also breaking the Clan Honor Rules, and further drawing fire).
Luckily my charge killed him dead. The Daishi then proceeded to wipe out me and the rest of the field. When we finished, I was the only one with a kill (two in fact), but since I had broken Clan honor rules they were gonna bust me out. I made my case this way.
"I am a warrior. I was given a Mech and told to kill as many targets as possible. Once my weapons were destroyed, the only way I had to finish following your orders was to perform a despicable physical attack and kill my target. If I am guilty of anything, I am only guilty of improvisation and initiative."
The table liked my speech. Though had we been the Jade Falcons I think I'd a gotten shot.

You know, you'd think they would learn if they scrapped their honor system it would help them out so much tactically, thus enabling a quicker return to the IS, which was Kerensky's wish from the beginning, that Terra was theirs. But yet they throw in these rules, which delays their return. _________________ I have the right to remain silent. Anything I say will undoubtedly incriminate me.

I see it more as Bushido. The code that governs life, death, and honor.

Yeah. That is a much better definition. It would be closer to the Bushido code.
Thanks Horhiro.

Isn't that suppose to be "Death is easy, comedy is hard,"?
Of course some of the players I played with. Their moves pretty close to comedy.

That would be honor code level 4. Where Zellbrigen is not followed.
It is a dirty low down daget that follows that code. But it does help against the IS troops tactics.
