Ok...just got back from this movie and I have to say...
IT WAS A GREAT MOVIE!
Seriously, I think this one might just edge out Wrath of Khan as best Trek movie...it's at least a solid number 2 in my book...nice and dark, some good battle sequences, had my favorite Trek villians, the Romulans, finally in a major role in a movie...and the ending came as quite a bit of a surprise...
There were only 2 blemishes really to this movie, IMO...1) Wesley Crusher had a non-speaking cameo role (at least they cut out his lines...) and 2) What the hell is the deal? ADMIRAL Janeway? ARGH!!!!

She spent seven years in the Delta Quadrant as the only federation captain with a federation ship out there, what did you expect of her? A slap on her back for a great job of getting her ship and crew through the Delta Quadrant? _________________

So, she deserved a two or three rank jump from Captain to Admiral?
That's too...Kirkish...

If she went from Captain to Rear Admiral as Kirk did that is just a 1 rank jump, a full Admiral commands whole fleets of ships. I don't know all the Trek ranks but I'll bet there is more than just one level of Admiral.
And in defense of Kirk (still the best Captain) it is easy to improve on things when you're not the first one to do it. But would they have been so well remembered if they came first instead of Kirk? I don't think so. _________________ "Those who beat their guns into plows will plow for those with guns..." -Thomas Jefferson

You forgot Commodore...that rank is used in Star Trek, and comes between Captain and Admiral...

Well, a promotion just for getting back means Commodore. Then some optional advanced schooling, accept a new commission and get that promotion to Admiral. What`s the problem?
IIRC many fine officers wait for years just to get a chance at advancing a rank. The higher grades are somewhat rare, and there are usually people filling them already.
