Why hasn't anyone invented a MRM Carrier yet? I just realized this. Here is my submition:
Take the LRM carrier. remove 3 LRM 20's and replace with 3 MRM 30's. Switch out four tons of ammo for four tons of MRM ammo (32 shots). You can last a little longer on the field and fire more rounds at the enemy. I mean its not that great, but it gets the job done.
I'm hoping to post a series of modifications I made to Draconis Combine BattleMechs. The mods all include replacing LRMs and SRMs for MRMs, and throwing on Rocket Launchers, and stuff like that. I'm just experimenting with ideas. I'll post those in a while, but for now tell me what you guys think.
What do you guys think of MRM's anyway? I've always liked them, but what about the rest of you?
Raven, curious about MRMs!

I can speculate.
MRMs do limited damage- only 1 point per missile. In addition, because they have no guidance systems, there is an automatic -1 penalty on the rolls made to hit with them. To put it simply, they just aren't that popular with fans.
Also, it's not too realistic to have all the carrier types- the SRM and LRM carriers, if you'll look, are little more than clones of each other. The Light SRM carrier and the Heavy LRM carrier OTOH are mission-specific. The Light SRM is for hit-and-fade operations; the Heavy LRM carrier is to just park and throw missiles down range.
Personally, if I felt a need for one for a campaign I'd just modify an existing missile carrier.

MRMs? I`ve only used them a few times, but they did work as advertised. Shoot at someone who`s hurt and can`t move

MRMs are decent, but against RLs, I have a hard time pointing out their strong point. I can only guess that it is more ammo for the weight.
Any thoughts on the pros of MRMs as opposed to other missile types?

The few times I have used them I have not had the best success rate...
Though I would admit that this mod of the standard missile carrier with MRMs would be nasty in a city with some point blank shots with no move modifiers.

Thats what I was thinking. Imagine playing "Luthien" but with these babies parked around every corner in a street or village. The Clans would be RUNNING to their dropships!
As to the pluses and minuses. I'd say a plus is the range: 5/10/15, and lack of a minimum range. This makes them a tad better then LRMs becuase most fights close quickly anyway, and then if you're Missile support mech gets trapped, it can still blast away at what is shooting at it.
However, the automatic +1 to hit can be bothersome, especially in very fluid battles. It makes life just that more complicated. However, firing from ambush or at point blank range with limited movement, I think MRMs can outshoot LRMs (who get REALLY nasty pluses close in) and can out missile SRMs. Thats my take on it

The only time I used MRMs was in a fight against Hardware and his gal pal. I had a trebuchet and a Dragon and It was near impossible to hit their Wraith and Nightsky. The extra +1 to hit mod was not helping, that's for sure.

My 200-ton Warlord packs 2 MRM-30s. Just for kicks I took it on with my 100-ton Marauder variant. In a savage duel, I learned 2 things:
- A mech that can jump, if manuvered correctly, can whip a bigger mech.
- It is possible for someone to launch 60 MRMs at you in one turn . . . and miss with every stinkin' one of them! Hee hee hee.
The moral: MRMs are fun, but not that accurate. Although for cheap armor, I like the idea of an MRM carrier.
I apologize for being gone so long. I will try to return more often.
