This was just posted on my board, I thought it was worth sharing.

"We, the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid any more riots, keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior, and secure the blessings of debt free liberty to ourselves and our great-great-great-grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt ridden, delusional. . .

We hold these truths to be self-evident: that a whole lot of people are confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim that they require a Bill of No Rights."

ARTICLE I:
You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.

ARTICLE II:
You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -- not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc., but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be ... and like the rest of us you need to simply deal with it.

ARTICLE III:
You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful; do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy.

ARTICLE IV:
You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes.

ARTICLE V:
You do not have the right to free health care. That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in public health care.

ARTICLE VI:
You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair.

ARTICLE VII:
You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV, pool tables, weight rooms or a life of leisure.

ARTICLE VIII:
You don't have the right to a job. All of us sure want you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of part time jobs, education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful.

ARTICLE IX:
You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness--which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an overabundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.

ARTICLE X:
This is an English speaking country. We don't care where you are from. We welcome you here. English is our language and like the one you left behind, we also have a culture. Learn it or go back to the country and the living conditions you were fleeing.

If only my country would say that too. French should have never survived. The French were conquored on the Plains of Abraham by the English, and what did they do? Protected their culture, and gave them the Veto on all Federal matters.

And, the immigrants! I haven't understood what a taxi driver has said in years... although I'm usually drunk whenever I'm in a cab!

While I would agree with the articles if I were American, I have some misgivings about the last one.. true, everybody should have the right and the duty to learn english, but that shouldn't mean inmigrants should forget their own language. By the same logic, learning other languages should be included in the education plans.

Btw, did you know that for many years after the conquest of California, the official language of government and day to day affairs continued to be Spanish?

Is there any doubt that English is the language of day to day business in private and public matters in the U.S.?

The need to legislate every little thing in your culture is exactly the sort of BS mentality this post is meant to fight. You just don't get it.

I wrote a report for college on language diversity in the American education system. Most school districts botch the job horribly. Think about what you are proposing, a school district in East Overshoe, Minnesota would have to go find a teacher that speaks Korean and develop a whole diverse language curriculum if ONE native Korean family moved to their district.

Additionally, the parents of most immigrants that intend to remain in the United States actually don't want their children to spend time learning their native language. They prefer that their children learn their adopted language as quicly as possible to more quickly integrate into American culture. Their advantage of being schooled in the new language is an aid to the family as they often act as interpreters.

The final reason that diverse language is a bad idea is that by segregating this small population of a school, you actually retard those children's ability to integrate with their peers. They are viewed as "outsiders" and that view is reinforced by the fact that they take a special class. And if you don't remember, perception is everything in school.

And like all good conquered people they adapted to better serve the victors. See Alexander's post above re: French Candians for a good example of what happens when you allow a conquered faction to remain independent.

American culture has been called "the Melting Pot" for well over a hundred years. In order to form that "alloy" different cultural groups have to mingle. Encouraging them to remain in ghettos or isolated communities does not speed that alloying process.

Diversity is great, but in order to be diverse, you have to have a common culture first.

Actually, it was only in the last ten years or so that it would have become necessary to make English official; up until that time, English was by default our national language. In fact, go over to www.snopes.com and enter 'German Vote' into their search engine. Even from the very beginning, we wanted English so badly that the government even refused bi-lingual federal forms for the populace.

Copperas Cove (where I live) has as people from European (Anglo and German, mainly), Spanish, Pacific Islander, Aisian, and African descendencies living more or less together, much of it brought about by the fact that we have one of the largest military bases in the US sitting right next door. And yet for the most part English is the language of day-to-day business for most people.

English is the traditional language of government and should remain that.

Ok, I have a vested interested here OSmile

Screw Korean or anything else... I meant Spanish America inmigrants, being able to speak two languages is an advantage, not a threat or obstacle.

America is not only the US.. the rest of the continent speaks Spanish, so in a few decades the US will find a lot of interests south of the Rio Grande. Learning Spanish is a profitable investment in the run.

Just wanted to point that out.

Actually, what we speak is American, which is a mix of mostly English, with words of Spainish, French, Native American (in various forms), maybe Portugese, and Dutch thrown in at times...along with some new stuff we invented ourselves...

We don't speak the Queen's English in its pure form...just like the Australians speak Australian, and not true English...

Despite what any teachers or whatnot claim...

Aww man. I couldn't even learn French, and it's our second language! I'm really screwed!

Alexander (Although I am picking up a lot of Serbian, Croatian, and Bosnian... all the same language really!)
