For those of you who haven't heard, hockey fans in Montreal and Calgary boo'ed the American National Anthem at the beginning of the games there in the last two days. I wish to apologize for this disrepectful display by my fellow Canadians. Anti-American sentiments are high throughout the world right now, but I feel, that as our closest friends, Canada should be more supportive.
As well, the actions of our Prime Minister have been disgraceful of late. He has taken to running the country as if it were a dicatorship, threatening members of his politcal party with expulsion if they vote against any of his actions. Not a great democratic way to run a democracy. He has singlehandedly destroyed the fighting capabilities of our Armed Forces through under-funding and over-deployment in the last decade or so. Even if he allowed our Army to assist in the war in Iraq, we would be unable to commit any ground forces, as we have none left to deploy. We are currently preparing to deploy a thousand some odd troops to Afghanistan again, to relieve some of the US troops there, as well as a thousand to Bosnia as we speak, who are replacing a thousand currently there. As well, we have a further two thousand prepping for follow on tours to Afghanistan and Bosnia. Our Army is so small now that that 5000 soldiers represents almost all of our deployable forces, so there would be no one left for a Gulf deployment.
Alexander (Feeling some shame at home)

Yeah...we never take our nice, but somewhat backwards, friends to the north seriously.

Unfortunately, it's comments like that which have caused many of the problems. I KNOW you meant it as a joke, and I take it as such, however, there are many out there who have felt that that is the way your whole country has been dealing with us, which, when you look at how things have been over the last few years...
Although, lately, our government hasn't been doing us any favors, as our PM seems to be rewarding officials who have anti-American leanings as of late.

I've heard "America Sucks" chants at sporting events, but it's always refreshing to see those that don't agree with it.
No apology needed Alexander, we know there are always those who act before thinking. Lotta people like that in this country. (And in all countries I suspect.)

And then on a sad, embarrassing note, followed by something that made me proud to be an American....
...the Canadian Anthem was boo'd by some at the Worcester IceCats' game today....
...only to be drwoned out by the rest of the crowd chanting "USA! Canada!".
The IceCats' staff then threw out a large group that was booing, to the cheers of the crowd and the stick banging of the players.
There's no room in that great sport for assholes.

Wow. If it would have been Vancouver, I probably would have been pleased to hear this. It would mean the fans there SHOW SIGNS OF LIFE! When I was up there in January, for the Vancouver/Phoenix game, it was almost sad enough to be considered pathetic. The fans would only cheer when they were told to, by the scoreboard. Sad when three Americans are leading cheers, doncha think?

At least they'll let Louie into the Garage--which is more than can be said for the Vault.
