3025...those were the days....What do you mean I have to roll to see if my AC/5 jams? It is not an ultra or RAC? Only 8 heat sinks? I thought all mechs came with 15 doubles as a minimum? What just cause I fired all my weapons three turns in a row shouldn't mean I shutdown? I want me sibko mommy!!!!!
Rifleman..Son of a Heat Sink...just make sure that sneaky Locust does not get behind you and open up with it's pop guns on your "thick" rear armor.
Marauder...Command...Hit'em with three, then hit'em with two, then three again.
Warhammer...Hammer of War...leave the infantry killing to the Singers and Locust, grab a couple of extra heat sinks and slag the enemy.
Griffin...double tens...Bang, ten points from my PPC hit to your RT, launch and roll an 11, that is 5 to your CT and 5 to your LL, oh you have to make a pilot skill roll and fall on your metal butt.

You can wake up now, JD....
Locusts were used as stepping stones for the real mechs...

When you have a total 8 points of rear armor for three torsos, even a "stepping stone" is a danger.

I would like to see a TRO come out divided into sections for each house and what they are producing and common variants for the common mechs that each house shares.
I.E. A section for House Davion mechs that are produced in their realm ONLY. Then one for House steiner, and so on.

I don't think more than one book should be dedicated to this concept though, I don't think many people would buy them all.

I think you'd be suprised how many people would want this kind of a product, especially if it came with a chart of when a design was introduced, quite production, and finally disappeared. The problem you'd run into, and you and Gg allude to it, is a lot of players are powergamers and wouldn't want to use a design that isn't top of the line. _________________ I'm not family friendly. I don't have a problem with using an older design, in fact its quite satisfying to beat an opponent with a rusty old Longbow and Hussar while their running around in a pair of Ryoken/Storm Crow designs. (fun game)
What I do think would be a problem is with multiple books for the designs/factions. People would be more inclined to buy one book, than many. One book that covered all the major factions, with a chart (I really like that idea), a few "new" designs, and an indication of the state of decay of technology and who can support what and when. Maybe a bit of fluff as to why.
For example, The Concordat kept producing MHL-X1's up until XXXX when its facilities fell into disrepair. The design was maintained for a further 10 years with no major problems, until parts became scarce. In XXXX only a few operational units were left, the rest being used for parts.

A timeline for designs would be cool and/or maybe and update kinda of like Objective raids on parts and manufactorers.

Gangreen,
Like Btech, good idea bad execution. Instead of Jeep with SRM2 try, 6 Wheeled All Terrain Assualt sysytem with High Velocity Auto Grenade Launcher, with Opitcal Sight Laser and Infantry Supression Pods.
You create a whole new group of weapons on a whole new scale. Try and not use the same names. They can look cool against one another but againt Level 2 items, if you took them toe to toe, would suck.
It makes a complete alternative system and feel. Then more options for timelines could be implemented. Also even if the numbers suck, the High Velocity Auto Grenade Launcher might be too cool of a name to pass up.
AWAD- For you dummies, A jeep with SRM, A Pods and and a guy with a laser pointer

I think Stinger is onto a good idea here. TRO's broken down into Factions/Houses would be great. A lot of houses have the same mechs, but they all have different variants, and this is a great way to highlight there differences.

I don't mind constant war, if it's done correctly. But even so, ever since the introduction of the 4th Suc. War, it has been one major even after another. Look at what we've had in the last 20 years of game time: The Clan Invasion, Tukayyid, the splitting of ComStar, the formation of the Chaos March, The Refusal War, the FedCom Civil War, Op. Bulldog, the destruction of Smoke Jags...well you get the idea. It's like a WW2 every couple of years. Now we get the Jihad.
I'm not advocating a stagnant storyline, but a few years of low intensity for everyone to catch up.

That's my ideas too. Admitted war drives technology advance, but not in a complete manner. We went from biplanes to jets in WW2 (the biplanes/ torpedo bombers were outmoded, but it took a demonstration of their bad survivability to convince the bean counters). It took years of peace to improve electronics technology properly to use the basics we discovered during the war. The mechanical is fairly easy. it is the electronics/ materials/ and efficiency that is hard and time consuming.
I took a 1969 V-8 (350 2 barrel carb) and replaced the intakes and carb with a fuel injector system. I get 16mpg, up from 13mpg and Half the smog. with 20 extra horsepower.
it took 20 years to make the kit I used possible. It uses electronics and several other technologies that were infants when the car was built. (the microchip was only for moonrockets at the time)
