Nightwish
If you like Prog Metal, the band Evenscence (sp?), or are just interested in hearing a cool band, check them out. I reccomend:
Elvenpath
Tutankhamen
The Phantom of the Opera
Moondance
Over the Hills and Far Away
Come Cover Me
Those are just a few I picked out cause I know off the top of my head they are cool. There are others worth checking out too.

They've been going downhill since the second album, if you ask me. It was fresh in 1997, but they're not doing anything new anymore.
Tarja has a great voice, though.

I dunno...I feel that its unique enough to be into. My biggest problem wih most prog groups is the vocals, I dont like most of the vocals. Savatage, Rhapsody and Dream Theater's singers are great, but the guys for Symphony X, Blind Gaurdian and a few others kinda annoy me.
I just found out about a band called Circle II Circle, whose lead singer is Zak Stevens (ex-Savatage singer and the better of Savatage's 2 main singers, IMO). I hope they end up cool. Their US release is July 22.

All those are songs of the band Nightwish.
My definition for Prog is kinda odd. Deep and heavy, yet still having defined harmony and melody. Usually needs keyboards of some kind. Emphasis on the feeling of a song, not the lyrics or what is being said.

Maybe to me its the attitude in wirting. Willing to take risks, go off in a new direction, but still holding on to musical roots.

Hell, when I came upon them I thought they were a new band. Evanescence had a song on the Daredevil soundtrack that's getting lots of airplay just now, so I bought the CD and like it a lot. Guess I'll have to check out their other work now. _________________ "Those who beat their guns into plows will plow for those with guns..." -Thomas Jefferson

In that case you might want to try some of the newer Amorphis CDs. Elegy and anything after it. http://www.amorphis.net/
